Ken, played by William Roache, is set to run the cafe Coronation Street's Ken Barlow is set to take over the running of Roy Cropper's cafe, when actor David Neilson takes a two-month break from the soap.
Ken, played by 75-year-old Bill Roache, will don a pinny to run the cafe with Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly) with amusing results, after Roy heads to Africa to join wife Hayley in her charity work, reports the Daily Star.
In real life, actor David, 58, is taking time out of the soap to make his first stage appearance in 13 years when he stars in a production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot in Manchester.
A Corrie insider said Ken and Becky's attempts to run Roy's cafe could be hampered by a personality clash: "Ken is very strait-laced and proper, while Becky can be a mouthy little wench at times."
Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley, is taking a year off to spend time with her family.

Coronation Street's Violet Wilson apparently gives birth while propping up the bar of the Rovers Return.
Luckily for the pretty barmaid, played by Jenny Platt, gay midwife Marcus Dent is at the pub having a drink with his boyfriend Sean Tully - the baby's biological father, reports the Daily Star.
Apprently Marcus, played by Charlie Condou, manages to keep everyone calm and delivers a healthy baby boy, joking: "I think we should call him Steve McQueen - he could not wait to bust out of there!"
It seems Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) even tries to lift the mood by saying: "You do know that when a kid's born in a boozer he gets free beer for life!"
Violet's boyfriend Jamie Baldwin (Rupert Hill) apparently misses the birth because he is who is travelling to London to plan the couple's secret new life.
When the paramedics arrive, Sean (Antony Cotton) is asked if he wants to travel in the ambulance with mother and child - and Violet agrees.

Mel Morton fulfils her dream of becoming a copper – and becomes her dad Jerry’s worst nightmare.
Honest Mel has always disapproved of her family’s shady dealings and aspired to join the force.
But dodgy kebab shop owner Jerry (Michael Starke, 50) loathed the idea of his daughter joining the dreaded bizzies, and now fears he has to watch every word in case Mel turns him in.
Jerry plans a surprise party at the Rovers for Mel (Emma Edmondson, 23) to celebrate her first day on duty. And it is not long before she is being interrogated herself – by suspicious locals.
First up is Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson, 33), who gingerly asks her: “Have you felt any collars yet?”
Even curious Jerry asks her: “Come on, tell us what it’s like. Dish the dirt.”
And it is not long before having a bobby on the Street makes life awkward for some residents.
An insider revealed: “They’ll be looking over their shoulders whenever she’s around and going out of their way to be nice.
“They’re not quite sure whether Mel is her own woman or still one of the Mortons. It makes for some great storylines, and all the cast and crew are waiting to see how her character develops.”
