its his only friend in the house and it gives him hugs

I think he's starting to fall for it but apparnetly it just wants to be friends. This could lead to fireworks

Because as a very observant member posted earlier - he is using it as a comfort blanket.

He is clearly regressing from a 10 year-old to a 2 year-old as we watch.
