Surely what's in danger of damaging Freddy is the fact that he's turned into such a total brown nose around Bea?

I like her, but everything she says, no matter how mundane, Freddy starts simpering and giggling and just agreeing with her. He was always wet but now he's wetter than a haddock in swimming trunks.

Freddy fans can blame Bea if they like, but if they are honest and look objectively they must see that Freddy is acting like a lovesick three year old.
