Default Finalist numbers increased to 16?

Part of a DM article

The new format

Simon is determined to make sure X Factor is a huge success again - he is terrified of audiences tiring of the formula.

To freshen things up, the auditions are now filmed in front of a live audience, as is boot camp. But the biggest change will be when the series reaches the live stage for the final 16 acts.

The Saturday night show will be followed by a new live results show on Sunday. This will net millions of pounds in extra revenue for ITV because it gives viewers longer to ring in and vote.

I hope the live shows aren't dragged out past January though, the first few weeks are always quite boring. I'm hoping for double eliminations for the first few weeks

Do you think that means they'll be shortening the audition episodes?

They've already started a week later than usual so if its to be over in time for Christmas number 1 then probably. Bootcamp and auditions will probably merge into one this year anyway

It'll be morel ike American Idol then, since they always have loads in their live stages. It'll allow for more favourites to get through I think as there's always one person who deserves to go through but doesn't.

Its not possible for 16 acts with the amount of time left. By the looks of it there will be 5 audition shows, a bootcamp weekend, a judges house weekend and 10 live shows. So I can't see it happening unless there were a few double eliminations.
Also Daily Mail has stated a date for the final and the start of the live shows which doesn't exist, so it can't be fully trusted
