Default The Wizard of Oz remake!

I read in the paper that there could possibly be The Wizard of Oz remake! starring Dakota Fanning!

Do you think this would be a good idea?

I'm against it, 99% of remakes fail miserably and I think it's a crime to remake such a groundbreaking film. They've got Wicked and Son of the Witch, they could make two big films out of them instead of remaking Oz.

Dakota Fanning gives me the creeps.
Actualy all child actors scare me with the exception of Drew Barrymore.

It's because it's easy money, It's a lot easier to just remake old successful films then to take a risk on a new property.

I dont think a movie based on a book should be called a remake. It's just another take on the book.

It should also be said that there was a wizard of oz film before the 1930s version we all know.

It will never compare as this is what we all remember but still for the next generation its a good thing. My son, who is 4, loves the newer Charlie and the chocolate factory (Tim burton was it?) but I think if I played him the older one, even though thats the one I love, he woulsnt find it as engaging. Its just bringing the classics to life for children in the future
