Default comments from a Canadian lurker

so I was never really active before. I made an accout to figure out where to download this show. I would have commented then, but I had to catch up and didn't want to get spoiled. So now I will make a post regarding my observations.

This is my first UK season of Big Brother so I don't know how it's gone before, but I've watched the American version since number 7. I like the American one quite a lot for the strategic element to it. I was skeptical when i started this one, especially because of the rule about how they're not allowed to talk about nominations. That there is such a stigma around playing Big Brother as a game rather than a random stretch of your life is pretty lost on me. The public voting thing takes strategy out of it entirely. It feels more like American Idol or Britain's Got Talent than a gameshow proper, like BBUS, which has more in common with survivor in many ways than BBUK.

And I thought BBUS was on TV a lot when i first started watching it, but it doesn't compare with UK. Every episode is one day... I don't think I'd have had the time to watch BBUK when i started BBUS. Not only that, but there are two other shows specifically about Big Brother? You guys are hardcore. I haven't really watched BBLB at all, and I only watched the Big Mouth one when Halfwit was on it. I tell you, it's a good thing that there are hardly any other good shows during this time of year.

Ok, enough about the game itself. At the moment I am really admiring marcus. Before, I liked Halfwit, and that wasn't because he was teamed up on... I just think I enjoy watching people who are eccentric in the way that he is.

Marcus is my new favourite because of his exaggeratedly hilarious arrogance. I was worried a couple of weeks ago when I thought for sure he'd have gone up against Siavash, because I knew Siavash was more popular. Now the only one he really has to worry about is Sophie.

Sophie makes me laugh, but mostly when she tries to sing, or when her voice cracks in the same way when she gets excited. Personally, I don't get what everyone sees in Sophie, but I'll give her third at this point in a second.

I've heard people in the house talk about Dave being funny, but he seems like too much of a ham to appeal to my sense of humour, and otherwise there doesn't seem to be anything interesting about watching him. Same with Lisa. I might be holding onto my Halfwit grudge, but she doesn't seem clever or entertaining in any way.

I love seeing Rodrigo pissed off, or otherwise excited. When he scolds people for lacking respect at the tiniest thing, he seems like he'd be probably the most annoying housemate to actually live with, besides maybe Charlie, but without Charlie, Rodrigo would lose so much entertainment value. I'd give Rodrigo an extra week over Charlie though. I love it when Rodrigo calls Charlie a clown and a liar.

I like Charlie because of how he riles up Rodrigo, but I cringe whenever I hear him argue with someone. He just won't ****ing shut up. He will say the same thing about ten different ways and it seems like over the course of his life he's learned to subdue people with the way he talks, rather than what he actually says. I think if I were in the house with Charlie, I would rile him up more than anyone else.

Who does that leave. Ah yes, Siavash. I felt like his best moments were involving Halfwit and Marcus. For someone with such over the top style of dress, and occasionally manerisms, he doesn't really do very many entertaining things. At the moment, I perceive him as the best strategist, since he's trying to get everyone to go up. He is probably worried about him and Marcus going up against each other. Him touching Noirin was his worst moment. I never really thought she was that appealing.

I'd definitely give that to Hira, even though she was pretty dumb acting most of the time. That actually amused me quite a bit. Right from the start when she had to pick two balls and was pretty much unable to repeat to BB what was said to her.

Oh and I'm definitely glad they got rid of Bea. She was quite an awful housemate, and she said that thing about Marcus liking sci fi and how she wasn't friends who like sci fi. That was probably the single worst and stupidest thing anyone said since they got there. "I don't like people who appreciate a particular genre of fiction"

I thought Bohemian people and hippies were supposed to be accepting.

I guess that's about it... Oh, a question: What do they actually bleep out? I hear the f-word all over the place. The only thing I can think of that they bleep is the n-bomb. Is that it, or are there others as well?

The only things that really get to me more than anything is when they say "This, That and the other" and "At the end of the day" in every other conversation. Particularly when they say "At the end of the day..." and keep right on talking about the same thing for five more minutes.

It's a long post yeah, but interesting. I found myself agreeing with almost everything... which doesn't happen often.

They woudn't dare beep out the N-word... anyone heard uttering it is out. Unless they're black, then it's strangely accepted.

At the end of the day - yes, that's drives me mad too.

What a GREAT and incisive post. Agree with almost all of it.

Welcome to the the Freddie fan club (which is still going strong - and on other forums/online support too)....I want Marcus to win now...a BB legend without a doubt and I've watched all BB series (except for last few) since the start.

Hope Canada is swell.

Ahhh right. Erm... No I think I've heard that on there before? Someone'll say if I'm right. There must be a terrible temptation to use it allllllllllll the time.

I don't actually like Charlie, I just like seeing Rodrigo excited, and Charlie does that better than anyone else.

Hi good post!

If it is Marcus being bleeped out it is probably every swearword in the dictionary plus a few he has made up for good measure.

Nice to see that folk other then Brits can get his sense of humour.

Good Post!!!

I agreed with most of your points! Especially with the fact that Rodrigo needs Charlie to stay in that house for entertainment purposes. I love seeing Rodrigo riled up!!

two of my favourite Roddie Sayings:

Roddie: DONT TELL ME TO SHUT UP......DONT TELL ME TO SHUT UP

Roddie: WHY YOU CALL ME TO THE DIARY ROOM, WHY RODRIGO??? WHY ME??!

Followed by him going mental in the Diary room...

LF is live feed....same as US BB. I'm Canadian as well but have been watching since season 4. I spend a lot of time in the UK so I don't know if I can come at it with a strictly Canadian point of view...

Yes, they have definitely bleeped that out in the HL show - strange when other shows on C4 at the same sort of time will leave it in.

Canada did have its own version of Big Brother and it was called 'The Lofters' and sucked because it was mainly Toronto-centric and other reasons,
and,
I had always assumed it was canceled mid-way through its second season because it was about petty urban liberal Torontonians - but a wiki page says its because it couldn't afford the internet bandwidth?

Sadly Canada never got its own version of Big Brother even though many other countries with much smaller populations had their own versions.
A relative sort of comparison (in a sense) would be like trying to give Scotland its own version with a competing English version.
BBUSA is 10 times massive and so we just watch that rather than make our own.
In previous seasons - Canadian viewers of BBUSA was a HIGHER % (per capita) than it was among Americans. How odd.

But BBUK is just an entire level beyond BBUSA. It really is another league.
Even a bad season (like BB10) is still a whole league above a BBUSA season.
but,
granted two different things with the USA version running a lot of its own rules and no public votes (except for prizes etc) and the US version is properly an 'ongoing scripted drama' and is not a 'game show'.

The continuous intense music makes the US version seem way more consistently intense. Meanwhile UK has barely any whatsoever.

Another post of self opinionated subjectively assessed drivel by El Proximo.

Can you support the comment about BB10 with ratings evidence? Err no i didnt think so.

I can't tell if it's a good season or not, but i'm not going to lie. I don't find it to be the most engaging hour a day of tv.

Congrats again for just barely understanding that anything thought and written here in these squares are 'opinions'.
For example:
"Another post of self opinionated subjectively assessed drive.."
That is another example of what we call an 'opinion'.
Hurrah!
I think you are discovering so much. (another opinion).

BB10 has been a disaster for a lot of reasons but the dreadful ratings are really a symptom of the bigger problems.
What are you going to tell me?
That ratings have gone back up closer to averages at the end of the season?
Right. Well do you understand how that doesn't 'cancel out' or 'bring up' previous losses?
Ratings alone don't necessarily tell you this season is a disaster but they do reflect it.

You would look at it this way:
More stunts. Bring back all the previous HMs. Add some strippers. have live-sex shows. make them have fist-fights every night. bring in celebrities nightly.
I BET you the ratings would go WAY UP and people like you would think it was awesome and yell 'Marcuss is KOOL!' as he slapped a hooker around.
but,
that would be a disaster despite ratings.
Oh.. that is my 'opinion'.
As was yours.
