Big Brother host Davina McCall has been confirmed as the host of a new dance based reality show on Sky1 airing next year.

The series, entitled Just Dance, will air for eight weeks in January and search for the best dancers of all genres from across the country, culminating in a live final.

Just Dance will be the first series Davina has hosted outside Big Brother since her own self-titled chat show back in 2006, although she has made numerous one off appearances since then, notably hosting Comic Relief and Sport Relief.

During the early years of Big Brother Davina also hosted a number of prime-time Saturday night shows for ITV, including Popstars: The Rivals, The Vault and Love on a Saturday Night. She has previously worked for Sky1 in the late 1990’s, hosting adult game show Prickly Heat.

This summer Davina has repeatedly rebutted rumours that the series would be axed this year, stating that she will be back with Big Brother 11 next summer

Duncan Gray, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, Sky1 HD, Sky1, Sky2 and Sky 3 has commissioned Shine TV and Princess Productions to co-produce JUST DANCE (8 x 60’), a new dance competition for broadcast on Sky1 HD in early 2010. This will be Shine TV and Princess Productions first co-production.

JUST DANCE will kick off with a series of nationwide auditions for dancers of all styles, shapes and sizes. Live audiences will be able to watch the auditions take place and join in professionally choreographed, mass participation routines called "Dancing in the Street." From the auditions, an expert panel will select dancers to take part in the spectacular studio dance extravaganzas, where they will hope to progress to the live final and be crowned series champions by the viewing public.

Gray commented: “Britain is a country obsessed with dancing. 4.8 million Britain’s regularly participate in dance classes and it’s the country’s fastest growing hobby. JUST DANCE will capture the public’s imagination and appeal to dance enthusiasts of all ages.”

Executive Producer, Karen Smith added: “JUST DANCE is throwing out the rule book. Everyone can compete in the competition, irrespective of age, style or combination of dancers. From ballet to break, bhangra to ballroom, salsa to sword, Irish, Scottish or English Country Dancing, whatever you do and whoever you do it with, we want to see you dance.”

Executive Producer Henrietta Conrad said: “Over 18 million people watch dance performances every year in the UK alone. Sky1 HD are appealing to the nation to give their all - blood, sweat and tears - as they take centre stage in a competition to be crowned JUST DANCE champion.”

Production on JUST DANCE is scheduled to commence immediately with nationwide auditions scheduled for September 2009. A host and all star panel will be announced imminently.

I never really like shows like this, I watch Strictly and Dancing on Ice but this sounds like one of those things that I simply wouldn't like.

Also, Davina get's on my nerves.
