Only one McD's in Reading!! Something to let management know about, eh Sticks? Thats got to be far short of McD's target ratio of square mile per McD shops!

I just scoffed down a Burger King about an hour ago, and sorry Sticks, but it was vastly superior to your clients products!!

Supersize me was a deliberate set up of my client by Morgan Spurlock to achieve the results achived. Hardly a scientific approach.

Even Burger King allows for customers to have extra large portions for an additional charge, as does KFC, this is an industry standard feature., so why single out my client?

Spitting chips, McDonald's fights back

After many weeks of silence, McDonald's is fighting back. The fast-food company will this week embark on a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign to counter the documentary film Super Size Me.

McDonald's has filmed three commercials - which will begin airing tomorrow - including one to be shown at cinemas. They will dispute some of the claims in the film.

The advertisements, which were shot on Friday, will feature the chief executive of McDonald's Australia, Guy Russo, and will claim that the actions of the star of the film, Morgan Spurlock, in eating only McDonald's food for 30 days were "stupid".

"No one eats McDonald's food three times a day, every day, and no one should," he said yesterday. "We believe, and have always believed, that McDonald's can be eaten as part of a well-balanced diet.

"What Mr Spurlock set out to do, which was double his daily calorie intake, deliberately not exercise and over-eat, was totally irresponsible."

This month Super Size Me grossed the highest opening weekend takings for a documentary in Australian history.

Mr Spurlock claims he consumed 13.5 kilograms of sugar and 5.5 kilograms of fat, while his weight increased by 11.25 kilograms.

McDonald's Australia is the first McDonald's in the world to use advertising to publicly attack the movie. Until now the strategy has been to ignore it, but recent research from customers indicated that McDonald's silence might be taken as an admission of guilt.

Mr Russo saw the film 10 days ago, and his angry reaction spurred the company into action.

"We've been taking the issue of obesity seriously for a few years now," he said, referring to the introduction of salads, nutritional labelling and low-fat breakfasts.

"If someone from America produces a film, and then comes out to Australia and attacks us, I'm not going to take that sitting down."

I still wouldn't touch a McDonalds or any other fast food place after that film.

There food is full of fat, greasy and makes you feel bloated. Not untill watching the film did i realise how much it can really mess with your insides, albeit a very tiny chance.

It's one thing to know that fast food is bad for you. It's another to see that 'badness' demonstrated.

Any food can be bad for you taken to excess

To say that all the food is "full of fat and greasy" is a gross and out of date stereotype. I regularly eat at a McDonald's and the food I take has very little fat if any and is not greasy. You are more likely to find greasy food in some people's private kitchens when they do a "fry-up"

Kitchens of a fast food restaurant are subject to statutory inspections, unlike people's private kitchens. I put it too you that some people's kitchens would get a deferred success on an inspection compared to an inspection at one of my client's sites.

Morgan Spurlock had an agenda right from the start and he manipulated the film right from the start. Even the very premise of the film was wrong.

The constant attack on my client, seems more motivated by an irrational hatred of all things American. No wonder my client's sites are targeted by anti-globalisation protesters.

The attack on the market sector where my client operates seems motivated more by a form of elitism, from those who prefer high class restaurants, or possibly those specialising in wholefoods and Vegan / Vegetarian restaurants. I do not have anything against those establishments, however the sector in which my client operates has democratised eating out, as their products are more available to those in the lower income brackets (I refer you to the 99p promotional campaigns)

Also in the final analysis, if my client, or anyone else in their market sector was supplying a poor quality product, they would not survive long in the market, as quite a lot of sales are repeat business. From the annual turnover and the profit made by my client, they must be doing something right.

Well if it's not true, and this stuff is 'good' for you, why didn't McDonalds come out and condemn the film instead of hiding from it?

And to eat from your own 'private' kitchen, it also gives you the piece of mind that you are not eating stuff that has been dropped on the floor, tampered with or stuff that has not been cooked properly.

The standards of these places are dropping and dropping fast because they continue to employ school leavers who don't have the foggiest.

They did not want to dignify it by giving it more publicity. The expression "Treating it with the contempt it deserves" comes to mind.

And you are quite confident of the integrity of the food that you buy ?

Most company buyers are rigourous in quality control and the vetting of suppliers. In this age of litigation they can not afford to take risks.

Also it is a sobering point that most incidents of food poisonings take place in the home.

I usually get to MacDonalds in the morning, so I have their breakfasts, which is much more superior to Burger King, who usually are not yet open, just like KFC.

I call at my local Mcdonalds every morning for my lovely coffee to have on the way to work - the lovely people who work there even put it in my own flask cup for me ( dont etll on them sticks please ) they just put their hands out for the cup now lol
