Default Be a fine soul and help me

I want to get in to journalism and need your help.

Does anyone know if its best to do a undergraduate degree in Journalism, or do a Undergraduate degree in a certain field, eg, Politics and then go on to do a Post Graduate degree in Journalism.

Thanks

Although English may be good as a degree, I dont know if I could do as well in that as I could do in say Politics, and surely a 2.1/1st in Politics would be better than say a 2.2/3rd in English?

And also if I did do English I would have to do a Post Graduate degree in Journalism anyway.

Thanks though...

Thanks... I'm unsure now as everyone is saying English.

Although it is a very prestigious degree I dont know if I could stick it, I'm doing it at A-Level and I got a B at AS... so I'm not all that good or all that bad. I don't know what I would be like at degree level. Its just I thought politics could be my 'specialist' area as such... I guess I was wrong!

Thanks you two, and everyone else keep helping

Id say do the second option..

Do the first in something you would like to be reporting on..
Then do the Post Graduate degree and you are more qualified.
Even if it would take longer..

Do a combined one, Journalism with Criminology/Politics/Sport whatever you want to do

Thanks again for more responses.

30Stone that was what I originally thought I could do, and maybe do some work experience in one summer before doing a Post Graduate degree.

Does anyone know if you can get government funding for a post graduate degree?

And Tom, that also seems a good (and faster) option, however, I'm not sure what good Uni's do that option, I will look in to it!

Thanks again, more ideas and help is veryyyyy welcomed!

What sort of journalism are you interested in?

Have you read much Tom Wolfe or Hunter S Thompson?

Heya,

I'm mainly interested in political journalism and reporting, and I have decided I am going to see a careers advisor in college and see what they reccomend.

I've not read much of those two at all, but I'll give them a google now.
Thanks mate!

Anyone else got views/opinions?
