My best friend's girlfriend is also at Glasgow Uni; he came down to visit her last Thursday/Friday (stayed the night) because he's at Aberdeen Uni so obviously can't see her every day. He left on the Friday at night; she went out to the foam party I was at and she cheated on him. They'd been going out for 18 months, but she dumped him the next day because she didn't want to give a long distance relationship a try.

Anyway, she keeps trying to hang out with me, but I feel really awkward about it so I keep "forgetting" to hang out with her, hoping that she'll get the message, but she really isn't getting it. What complicates things is that he still cares about her, one of the things he said to me after they broke up was "can you make sure she's okay?" and "she's a nice girl" - nice girls don't cheat on their boyfriends. I can't (and wouldn't anyway) be nasty towards her because all of his other friends are ignoring her (the friends that are also at Glasgow), so I'm the only one she knows that hasn't actually been rude to her yet... Do I hang out with her or do I keep avoiding her? She lives in the next building, it's so so awkward...

This may come under the heading of 'Unsolvable Issues', its a tough one, unless you tell your friend she has cheated, which could be a horrible thing to do.

Maybe you could tell her that you can't hang out with her as much becaause your own girfiend is getting jealous of the time you spend with her. That could work!

Yeah absolutely, but he wants me to hang out with her and make sure she's okay, he's got to be the most considerate ex boyfriend in the world, I don't think he knows she's dating the guy she cheated on him with now... I don't think she realises just how shitty she is, everything you could possibly do in a bad breakup she has done - cheated on him, dumped him by text, started dating the guy she cheated with just days after she's broken up with her boyfriend of a year and a half...

That's what I've been doing Nathan, but she keeps trying to invite me round to their flat or come over here, I keep having to make up excuses or saying I'll text her later but not doing it!

She's sooo not my type: second hand. Nah she's now "dating" the guy she cheated on my friend with; it's ridiculous, how can anyone jump straight from an 18 month relationship to a freshers week fling... ridiculous.
