The list is generally excellent bar Katy Perry, Coldplay and soem others I can't remember but keep it up Shaun (If Knights of Cydonia/Blackout/Plug in Baby aren't on the list I'll be most disapointed) .

70. Ash - Burn Baby Burn
One of 2001's best rock offerings, Ash's most successful single managed to only peak at #13 in the charts whilst simultaneously picking up "Best Single" awards from NME and Q. You might recognise it from the Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow intro-credits, or, if like me, you're just cool.

69. Snow Patrol - Run
A million times better than Leona Lewis' cover (although hers was pretty good), Run was one of the decade's most successful underachievers; being featured in almost every TV moment in need of a "best bits" or emotional-dramatic climax, this single from the album "Final Straw" garnered both commercial and critical acclaim. A soothing and patiently-building declaration of love and loyalty.

68. U2 - The City Of Blinding Lights
One of many songs praising the Big Apple, COBL was the Irish international superband's 5th single from their "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" album back in 2004. With a euphoric and uplifting piano tune set to epic guitars from The Edge, this is one of the band's happiest and easy-listening of tracks.

67. Lady GaGa - Poker Face
It's been less than a year but I already feel this track will go down as one of the defining pop tracks of the 2000s. Her media-presence this year has been phenomenal, provoking a love-or-hate reaction with her controversial image, opinions and material. But this single proved to fans and critics alike her longevity and relevance to music today, topping charts across the world. Momomomore.

66. Damien Rice - Cannonball
As album titles go, "O" was a little snappy to say the least. Used in TV programmes such as The O.C., Bones and The L Word, Rice's second single from the album was moderately successful, only peaking at #32 in the UK Chart back in 2002. Gentle and fragile acoustic folk rock at its best.

65. Basement Jaxx - Romeo
Slight change of tone here from the previous chart position, but Basement Jaxx's venture into the Bollywood / Indian genre proved a smash hit with fans. With a colourful and vibrant video to match its upbeat electronic sound, 2001's summer was that little bit sunnier with this dance hit.

64. Bloc Party - Helicopter
This is one of a few songs on the chart that instantly trigger a nostalgic moment for me - the moment(s) in question being spent lounging around the common room in sixth form with an old friend laughing at the sound of "bravado", triggering an ongoing private joke. Probably not so funny to you. But ah well - the energy of this track is immense, and its twang makes it stand out from the crowd of pretentious indie rubbish.

63. Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?
Fans of No Doubt were a little apprehensive about Ms. Stefani's solo venturings, but upon the release of Love.Angel.Music.Baby. and this debut single, most of those doubts were quashed. A cute video playing on the Alice in Wonderland imagery and a high-energy powerful chorus made this one of 2005's most internationally successful songs. She then got sidetracked by Harajuku Girls, bizarre Sound of Music remixes and whatever the **** a Hollaback Girl was before rejoining her No Doubt bandmates in 2008.

62. Embrace - Gravity
Written by Chris Martin in 2002 this was initially a Coldplay track, before being given to Embrace. The success was considerable - it peaked at #7 and was used as the theme song to Mike Bassett: Manager. A simple and beautiful piano ballad.

61. Little Jackie - The World Should Revolve Around Me
In 2008 an unknown US pop duo burst out of nowhere with this incredible song. And it didn't exactly do badly, but at #13 certainly not enough. A sassy and attitude-packed pop song with ...interesting lyrics, I hope to hear more of the same from them soon. And for the love of God check out the gurl's afro.

UMG The Whole World Should Revolve Around Me, so epic still love it. Also a fan of Romeo [I *****d their greatest hits sfmuch for like a year], Pokerface, Run and Burn Baby Burn.

I miss that Gwen era, it was so edgy.

60. Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie
On and off the number #1 spot in a 2006 Summer that saw close-fought battles between her, Justin Timberlake's SexyBack and the Scissor Sisters, Shakira's summer anthem proved to be one of the UK Chart's most enduring successes - striking top spot in 13 countries. I don't need to describe it, do I?

59. Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag
'COS I'M JUST A TEENAGE DIRTBAG BABY. 'Nuff said. Is that Jason Biggs in the video? Oh how qt.

58. The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So
Borrowing slightly from The Kinks' "All Day And All Of The Night", the Swedish rock band's 2000 and 2002 single from their 'Veni Vidi Vicious' album is one of the catchiest guitar tracks around.

57. Beyoncé - Halo
One of only a few 2009 offerings, the 4th single from I Am...Sasha Fierce was one of the diva's most successful ballads. Peaking in top #5s around the world and simultaneously irritating a number of you folk, it's in my opinion one of her best songs. Slightly repetitive chorus maybe, but in moderation it's genuine, heartfelt and sweet.

56. The Killers - Bones
For me, the Killers are the best band to emerge from the decade. There, I've said it. I challenge you to suggest decent alternatives. Anyway back to this song, and it's the first of many of theirs to chart here, but Bones is the second Sam's Town single. Quirky skeletal video and combining feel-good brass with their trademark euphoric rock sound, this is one of their best singles.

55. Bodyrox ft. Luciana - Yeah Yeah
For a long time this was the most-played track in my iTunes, last.fm and Malaysian Sharing Network libraries. The featured artist, Luciana, tends to pop up on a number of minor dance collaborations (two with Bodyrox, another with Super Mal) before getting more fame by featuring on Taio Cruz's "Come On Girl". But this is her at her fiercest. Potentially my favourite dance song of the decade.

54. Oasis - Falling Down
Their 2008 album 'Dig Out Your Soul' received a very mixed bag of reviews from critics, and it's fair to say it lacked something that their previous albums contained. But what it lacked in all-around goodness it made up for with this moment of greatness. 'Falling Down', their second single from the album, is oddly poignant now given their split.

53. Sam Sparro - Black & Gold
Daren, put it away. Australian gay comes over here, steals our fierce, turns it into smooth and sexy dance-pop. And...it didn't get to number one? *closes Wikipedia in disgust*

52. Britney Spears - Womanizer
Mark, put it away. Where do I begin with Ms. Spears? You can't have a more turbulent 10 years than she's had - she's rocketed to fame, become the Princess of Pop, shed her Disney skin, had a very public split with Justin, a string of bad relationships, a meltdown, lost custody of her kids, experimented with hair and lack thereof...but 2008 saw her come back in scathing form. This, the first single from her smash comeback album 'Circus', saw Spears regain her composure somewhat. A ruthlessly catchy and sexy song.

51. Marilyn Manson - This Is The New ****
Am I the only person to go from Britney to Manson in a countdown of singles? Possibly. Self-proclaimed God of Shock-rock, the 90s reaped controversy and notoriety about the eccentric frontman - rumours of his self-fellatio and bizarre indulgences were amok. But his 2000 exploits included this brooding, venomous and frankly insanely-written gem. Don't put it on full volume. Or do.

Loving the list so far Shaun; haven't heard of some of them but I'm liking the way this is shaping up!

Surely Mr Brightside will make the top ten; absolute anthem of this decade!
