The former US vice-presidential candidate argued that a humble spirit could help leaders to get more answers on issues such as health care, energy and national security.

In a video released Friday by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the 2008 Republican candidate for vice president, said it was important for leaders to recognise they don't have all the answers.

Mrs Palin said: "No one person has all the right answers. It takes a united nation, and it does take godly counsel, and it takes prayer and answers to prayer - and a collective humble heart of a nation seeking God's hand of protection and his blessings of prosperity.

"I think if we can get back to that, our country will be a safer, more prosperous and healthier nation."

The former Alaska governor referred to an Abraham Lincoln proclamation that declared a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer.

She said the United States has been "touched by God" because the nation's early leaders dedicated the country to God.

Mrs Palin said: "If we could get back to that, that humbleness, with that kind of contrite spirit, I think that we would be able to be provided more of the answers to so many of the great challenges that we're facing.

"And these are huge challenges, whether we're talking about health care, whether we're talking about energy independence, whether we're talking about national security measures."

Look how Bush used faith as a powerful tool in his plans to bomb the shite outta Afghanistan and Iraq. It's a dangerous and highly manipulative weapon to use in politics.

To be fair Bush would have used anything to get his own way, religion was closest at hand.

But you've proven my point.... it's a dangerous weapon in politics and should be treated accordingly, with great care and deliberation. Actually, I feel sickly when anyone uses it in politics. A very cheap trick.

That would make America 10x worse, there is already too many powerful fundies high up in American politics

I actually liken this to mental illness. How she is drawing completely out of the blue, baseless, abstract conclusions attributed to 'God'. Isn't it funny how God always causes the good stuff, but never the bad?

Fuck it. Let her pray. When she gets a voice in the wind or in a burning bush telling her how to fix her country, she can let us know.

Of course I do. Mixing wishy washy religious rhetoric with politics is a dangerous game and a cheap tactic to gain support that's been a typical policy adapted by many parties. Absolute wank if you ask me.

Politics should never mix with religion really as most religion is biased and if we model a government after it it'll only lead to (more) discrimination. As for Sarah Palin is president? I wouldn't want that mad cow anywhere near the white house, she's George Bush with a vagina.
