REVIVAL
|
Now that we've all had a chance to catch our breaths after last year's 'Relapse,' we can start revving up the hype machine for Eminem's new 2010 album, 'Relapse 2.' On March 5, 2009, Eminem announced his return to the world of music after a nearly six-year hiatus, and told fans to be on the look out for not one, but two albums in 2009. Much to the disappointment of his fans, though, the rapper ultimately decided to push the release of 'Relapse 2' back to 2010.
In the meantime, though, he did give fans something to chew on, with 'Relapse Refill,' which hit stores on December 21 of last year. The LP was essentially a re-release of 'Relapse,' but included seven bonus tracks, including the singles 'Forever' and 'Taking My Ball.' In a press statement, Eminem said he hoped to "tide fans over until we put out 'Relapse 2' next year. Eminem revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that a large part of the delay in releasing 'Relapse 2' was due to the fact that as he got further and further away from his drug addled past, his music just got better and better. Throughout 'Relapse,' Eminem delves into his lurid past, and minces no words in addressing his drug problems. Now that he's recovered, though, he's able to look back on his recording over the past year with an entirely different perspective. As he says, "Making 'Relapse,' I was still working the drugs out of my system...It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value - kind of going back to 'The Slim Shady LP.' And that was cool, but I've kind of flipped the page. Now I'm going for songs instead of one-liners." While Dr. Dre's influence as a producer was evident throughout 'Relapse,' Em's seventh studio album will reportedly feature collaborations with a few other producers, as well, including Kon Artis and Just Blaze. Eminem's also gone on record saying that he and 50 Cent have laid a track together, although it's not yet clear whether or not it'll be included on the final tracklist. RapBasement also recently reported that the new 2010 album, unlike its predecessor, will feature contributions from Eminem's D12 collective. DJ Whoo Kid, speaking to MTV back in September, said that based on what he's heard of 'Relapse 2,' he's convinced that "the crazy, lyrical, maniacal Eminem is back. Maniac!" As of yet, there hasn't been an official drop date announced, although in a recent interview with the BoomBox, Just Blaze confirmed that he and Eminem have been hard at work in their Detroit studio, putting the final touches on the album. Expect an announcement pretty soon, then. In the meantime, we'll all continue biting our nails in anticipation. Also Eminem stated on Twitter that he has a big announcement "coming soon". Can't wait for this, if its anything like Relapse & Relapse Refill, i'll be happy.
