THE man widely recognised as the best commentator in the history of wrestling says he will probably never announce another match.
Jim Ross made the comments on his blog, adding that he is in talks about a new role within WWE. He also confirmed he WAS healthy enough to announce at WrestleMania 26, despite not being used on the PPV. Many fans feared JR's recent bout of Bell's Palsy had got worse after Michael Cole, Matt Striker and Jerry Lawler called the show — including the main event of Shawn Michaels v The Undertaker. But Ross said: "Life is good and I am healthy and happy. "For those that have erroneously written or assumed the reason I did not announce at WM26 was because of health concerns, that assumption is incorrect, I'm happy to say. "Broadcasting wrestling in WWE is likely history for me. "But there are many other areas to which I can contribute in WWE and those options, among others, will be weighed over the next month." Michaels, who lost a career-ending match to Taker at Mania, paid tribute to JR during his retirement speech on Raw — calling him the greatest of all time. And Ross repaid the compliment, blogging: "The highlight of WrestleMania was Undertaker v Shawn, which was obviously the match of the night. "I've answered a few emails regarding this matter and it is obvious that I would have loved to have broadcast this bout but that wasn't in the cards. "At least I was in Phoenix and saw the event live and was then able to spend significant time with both HBK and with Taker after the event in private settings. "Those experiences became my WrestleMania Moments. " He added: "Shawn's farewell message Monday night on Raw was from his heart and not something he read on a TelePrompter. "What fans saw Monday night was legitimate, organic TV from arguably the greatest in-ring performer, certainly of his generation, and perhaps of all time. "I sincerely appreciated Shawn's shout out to me on Raw which was, symbolically, a fitting end to my own WrestleMania tenure." ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Vince, Kevin Dunn and co should be ashamed of themselves for the treatment they gave him over the years. King is past it. Nobody likes Cole. Nobody likes Striker. We wanted JR for WrestleMania, and despite Vince supposedly being a 'for the fans' guy he wouldn't give him to us, under some stupid pretence that god forbid he is a wrestling announcer.

aww, JR was an amazing commentator!
I think they need to get rid of Todd Grisham, Jerry Lawler and that NXT commentator guy. If they could get someone like Mike Tenay. Or even bring back Joey Styles, he was awesome. I think Matt Striker is incredible. One of the most intelligent commentators around and he backs the heels <3

Matt Striker is far from intelligent. He just likes to give the illusion of intelligence. The guy said so much stupid shit at WrestleMania that I'm surprised he still has a job.
Great that he backs the heels though. |

He should make an attempt to at least hide his heel love a bit and hypocrisy though, unless he actually wants to look like a tit 99% of the time. its a bit too blatent

![]() Seriously this is stupid. Cole is useless, I don't mind Striker so why not bring JR back to do SD with him ffs? It was great when they used to have heel and face commentary and those two would do a great job together imo. And why the **** not have JR on the Taker v HBK match at Mania if he was fit and they'd be giving him the bums rush afterwards? Would have been fitting to have two legends bowing out at the same event but oh no, Vince will screw good ole JR over one more time on the way out. That guy must have some devotion to the company to put up with the **** he's endured over the years, bless him.

Jim Ross: 'I'm Not Retiring' - The Latest On The Future
Hall of Famer Jim Ross posted a new blog entry at JrsBarBQ.com with a detailed update on his future in WWE. Ross recently signed a short-term contract extension and there's been a lot of speculation that he's either leaving the industry entirely or would consider jumping to TNA Wrestling. Ross wrote: "JR is NOT retiring. It's tempting and financially doable but I want to work a few more years in a role that is fun and not as laden with stress as some of my previous assignments have been. No I am not 'vanishing.' LIfe is so good here in Norman and I have a tremendous amount of things to look forward to although I know that I have not broadcast my last event. One doesn't do something for over 35 years and stop cold turkey or at least I don't. There are no issues or problems with my negotiations with WWE. The ball is in WWE's court to put together a new role for me within the company. Essentially they have decided to reassign me from weekly broadcasting and that includes the monthly PPV's to focus on other areas of the company. I am guessing, and I stress guessing, that may be some form of scouting and/or talent development. I might be wrong on that assumption but I'll know before the end of April as that is when my current extension expires." |
