I am amazed.
How can we deny that this game is about deviousness, manipulation and deception? Who would like watching decent, nice, fair, cultivated people who think before they speak? People who would refuse gossiping and stabbing their fellow housemates in the back? What would be the point of this game? I do realise though that such thing would be impossible, for the following reasons: 1) a good and decent person would never lower him or herself to the point of being part of this game. 2) a good person (someone who’s reliable, honest and wise, who does not stab people in the back and who does not gossip) would make the people watching the show feel really bored, since whoever watches this show expects treason and low instincts. Do you think people watch this game because it stirs their noble side? The way some people in this forum speak of the most controversial characters is so serious and ill-spirited than I kind of feel that watching this game has made them every bit as mean as the housemate they're bashing. Unless, of course, that's the way they already are in real life (to some extent of course). The way I see things, this game should reward the most manipulative, cold-blooded back-stabber. At least the game would use its full potential and perhaps even perform some sort of catharsis. As John Cleese said the other day, we're back in the arena. Since this game requires the loss of the players’ dignity (and perhaps that of the audience as well), and since this game is about exalting our lowness, I think we should go for the bad and the ugly. Otherwise it's just a very boring arena we’re watching. |

I think that Jonny and Kate are now becoming so popular because they are not seen as backstabbing or two-faced. What gossiping they have done is seen more as a reaction to what they perceive as being done to them.
If you want to win Big Brother, you have either to (a) not be seen as manipulating or scheming or (b) cover it up well so the public don't notice it either. Adele was manipulating people, she was seen as two-faced outside, and the sweet-voiced "Hi Jonny" followed by "****** off" as he walked away came across as venomous. Obviously if the public weren't allowed to vote it would be different, but they are! |

Series 1 - Craig, Anna and Darren - not exactly first class bitches any of them. Who got voted out before them - Mel, for one, who was seens as devious and manipulative. Series 2 - Brian, Helen and Dean. Not exactly the three witches are they? Who got voted out before them - Narinder, for one, who has loud mouthed, obnoxious and stirring it up. As I've said on another thread - different people obviously watch BB for different reasons but I certainly don't watch it to see a houseful of back stabbers, bitches and unpleasant, mealy mouthed wannabes. |

I'm sorry susieq, but I think that you absolutely expect deviousness etc.
You seem to have remembered all of the devious, manipulative, loud mouthed, abnoxious participants from the previous series. Strangely, all of those terrible things from previous series haven't put you off this series. I would guess that you have been quite pleased when the housemates that didn't like were voted out. If all of the housemates were charming people, who would never say anything against anyone, everyone would have switched off after a week. [Horrible thought:- 12 versions of Jonny in the house together] ![]() |

I will say again, that I DO NOT watch BB for deviousness, that is a wholly different thing from expecting deviousness. I don't think I said I didn't expect it, I said that isn't what I watched it for.
Yes, you're right I do remember the conniving, devious people from previous series, but then again I remember those that didn't show those traits as well - In fact, I remember all of the houemates from all the series, I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to prove. As I've said previously, we all watch BB for different reasons - you watch it for the bitching and backstabbing and that's fine for you. I watch it for other reasons and I hope you agree that's fine for me. I don't want us to have a big argy bargy about it - just the ability to recognise we are different people who have different viewpoints. |

Ah, you misunderstand me. It's not the bitching and backstabbing that I watch for - I want to see people overcome the conflicts. The reconciliation between Jade and Adele after their fight was the highlight, not the fight itself. The appeal is that people will generally overcome conflict, but without conflict there is nothing to overcome!
The absence of true heroes in society is a wonderful thing, as it suggests a lack of conflict - instead we look for conflict in our entertainment. |

I think that she'll do okay, though, as she will be a "character" and will make money from it, in much the same way as Nick Bateman made money because of his cheating in the first Big Brother. |
