Bill Roache has ruled out a live Coronation Street special to mark the show's 50th anniversary.
The veteran actor, who has played Ken Barlow since the soap began in 1960, confirmed that it will not follow in the footsteps of EastEnders, which recently aired a 25th anniversary live episode. He told PA: "We're not going to do a live episode, we did that in the Millennium year [the show's 40th anniversary], we don't want to do that again." The star added: "EastEnders did it for their birthday - they hadn't done it before." Roache's co-stars Helen Flanaghan and Kym Marsh previously revealed that they were keen for a live episode.
