I'm (half) watching a documentory about compensation claims for this that and the other. Of course sometimes there are valid reasons for making claims but in this day and age it seems to have gone crazy. People stubbing their toes in the playground, being hit by a small falling branch and even cutting themselves shaving (I kid not) are making claims
What on earth happened to these being a possible part of any day? Are we really turning into a nation of money grabbing greedy bastards? |

I love America and Americans but we seem to be following their lead on this type of thing tbh.
It's crazy, I got stopped in the street the other day and was stupid enough to engage in convo with this 'claims expert' guy, he was trying so hard to find me something I could claim for it was ridiculous, I ended up laughing at him in the end and walking off!

The thing is, watching this, the court cases and ordeal of actually claiming are more stressful and long winded than the actual accident. |

Too many people looking for freebies these days and not prepared to work hard for what they have!

It certainly looks like the way we're heading. Too many people who are either greedy or simply can't let a grudge go. Take all these celebrities, sleazy politicians or dodgy law firms who bring on the libel lawsuit whenever someone implies that the sun doesn't shine out of their arse.

Whilst it is true that some people will seek to gain after being involved in accidents etc, it is also true that everyone has a responsibility to ensure the safety of other people in some way. Failing in that reponsibility is negligence in one form or another, be it wilful or through ignorance.
Taken to the other extreme where you couldnt sue for negligence would mean councils could get away with not repairing pavements or potholes in the roads. Repairs need not be carried out to playparks for children, schools would be allowed to fall into dangerous conditions etc. Its about balance, a certain amount of accidents are unavoidable, however if conditions are allowed to detoriate to an unsafe state and there is someone responsible for that location then they are being negligent if they dont remedy the problem. Obviously some people will try to profit from this situation, thats just human nature. |
