Default If you don't feel close to 'nature' is it really such a bad thing?

If you feel no close affinity for the planet and nature it doesn't mean you're a bad or immoral person. If you simply feel indifferent to 'all things natural' but feel passionately about other things I would really like to hear from you. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Closeness_to_Nature

If you feel passionately about nature you're more than welcome to contribute as well.

I've been carrying out a study looking at how close people feel to nature and whether their dietry choices and what they do whilst in the natural environment show any differences between the groups and many people have kindly filled it in. Presumably because we associate these sorts of studies with a moral stance that some people shy away or answer how they think they should feel. I have friends who are completely disinterested and a few who have an intense dislike of aspects of or all of 'nature' and they are still fine people.

I would like to give the opportunity to those who don't, to register their opinion through this survey, it's completely anonymous and easy to doin fact I'd really value their input into the study, it only takes several minutes and you don't have to think too much as its just selecting answers.

Default Just wondered that's all

Surprised no one seems interested as I've had some interesting points of view on other forums.

I was really hoping to hear from people who have no real interest in nature as I think it may be possible that all the studies that are done telling us that people are linked to the 'natural environment' because we're hard wired as a species, it's in our interests to be for our survival as a species.

Studies also show that being a vegetarian is likely to mean that you feel closer to nature. But have the studies been comprehensive enough? Or have they only interviewed people who have an interest in the study. After all why participate in a study about nature if you have little or no interest.

I thought it would be interesting to get the other point of view, if there is one. I can honestly say that I don't know the answer and don't have specific viewpoint.

Does it matter if they're not your kids?
On the other hand although it may not be a case of being callous Why should we care about nature?

After all the people who tell us to care etc, such as celebrities or people who have a vested interest are often different and far removed from the majority of people and can afford to live a 'greener lifestyle'. Why should we listen?

When so many messages, some would say overwhelming, we recieve backed by the powerfull and influential tell us to use and consume, again via celebrities and other role models why not believe them?

I was being slightly callous as nobody was playing with you, so typed to be conrovesial but even that didn't work. Seems TIBBers are somewhat indifferent.

I'm bored by celebs such as sting who dedicate their soul to the rain forests

I recycle, switch unused appliances off and dont leave things on standby. Whether or not it will have an effect on the planet I dont know, or really care. I do know it saves me money, that means I can afford more beer and wine.

Still a good reason to do the survey even if you do like nature, only takes about 4 minutes and it'll help us learn and it'll be making science.

As I keep saying why should anyone not interested in nature fill take part in a study about how people feel about nature? I would like to think that they would want their point of view put forward and included.

Not my thing. I'm an urban guy, I need the noise, the buildings etc...

But what I love about my city is that we have a beach and a few islands so it's a good mix.

Are you doing this as a school/college/Uni project? My general comment would be that the results are worthless - many anonymous respondents will answer the questions deliberately wrong from how they actually feel - it's the joke of the net.

That's built into the study as long as the numbers are there and a good use of statistics (I know lies, dammed lies etc), and if anyone wants to spend the extra time figuring it out to 'beat the system' that's ok but why bother and what are they kicking against as I don't belong to an organisation or body of oppinion(someone doing a survey I suppose). I really don't have an agenda beyond are there differences between various groups and feel that the other point of view is important to give any real meaning. I've lived long enough and seen enough to know that nothing is ever that cut and dried

I know there are many people who are completely indifferent and I thought I'd give them an opportunity to put their point of view forward and although I must admit I would enjoy the chance of meaningful discussion on the subject I accept that the opportunity to do so is probably slim.

I think the people at cornwall college newquay should get a real job in the town that helps the local economy instead of pretending to work, like this bollocks.

It's because of all the rubbish in this world that we need to do studies like this. At least then we can then talk about things with the surity that we really do know what we're talking about rather than repeating what has been said by others before about what we think we know.
