I'd rather have someone appointed on merit, not just to fulfil some sort of ethnic quota. Didn't see many ethnics in the higher echelons of Labour Cabinet did we, despite their mealymouthed obeisance to multiculturalism, inclusivity, positive discrimination etc.

Best candidate for the job should get it, irrespective of race, colour, gender, sexual preference or social background. Positive discrimination is STILL discrimination whatever way you want to dress it up.

The best person for the job should get it. What needs to be ensured is that minorities in government have the same chance as a typical MP at getting a job and that it shouldn't hold them back. But that doesn't mean on the grounds they are a minority that they should be ahead in the queue to get the job. The person who can best do the job should always get it.

Demonstrably wrong but it even 'hypothetically' there is not reason for that to be true.
I also dislike the question which seems to insinuate (or even imply) that you don't trust the decisions of so many blacks and asians?
In ridings with substantial black or asian populations we saw native 'anglo-saxon' Brits elected.
Well it becomes statistically impossible to suppose a large portion of their votes were from blacks and asians.
So who are you to question their choice?
If 500 blacks wanted Nigel Whiteman as their representative then who are you so say these black voters were wrong?
Maybe they are very pleased that Nigel Whiteman is representing them.

As an 'anglo-saxon' I once voted for an East Indian immigrant to represent me in a local election.

Can a black British person not have a say in the running of the country? After all, thousands of ethnic, British people exist. Should they not get an elected voice?

OK. Like I said in an earlier post, there are plently of Jewish people in parliment that nobody even thinks to question. I didn't mean it as in whites. Just anyone who considers themself British and all that. Who are her bnp mates?

Britain has as much right to its historical and cultural identity as any other country! I was commenting on LTs sarcastic remark about white Anglo Saxons being the power race in this country - as historically they always have been and you would expect to see more 'white faces' running this country - just as if you go to say India you would expect to see more 'brown faces' running the country! That doesn't mean to say I have anything against people of other races as Members of Parliament in this country - I don't! I was talking about the majority!
