"Final Fantasy Versus XIII" may bring airships back to the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3, depending on how internal discussions at Square Enix go between now and an expected unveiling at E3. The game was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive, but so was "Final Fantasy XIII," and we all saw what happened with that plan. Asked about a potential multiplatform launch, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada left the possibility on the table.
"We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement," Wada said at an investors conference in Tokyo, according to an Impress Watch report translated by Andriasang.
The "FFXIII" defection to become a dual-platform title was a bit of a coup, two Final Fantasy titles in a row turning non-exclusive would set a new tone for the franchise. Wada's words will get a lot of attention from gamers, but his response could also be an indicator that his company is waiting to come to a proper agreement with the Xbox people. Whatever his intention, he must have sounded alarmingly non-committal to Sony, speaking about a title that's publicly been in the PS3's lap since it became official.
