Default Prejudice against single mums.

Do you think it is about alot? What do you think of them? I know a girl who has a kid and got all A's in her A-Levels at uni. People do break the stereotypes at times.

What a brill thread! As a Single Mum myself I always get put into the 'Benefit grabbing, Jobless, Out every night of the week, Jeremy Kyle watching category, But that's so wrong, I work and have done since Cian was a few months old, I don't drink anymore, I look after Cian very well and she has everything she wants and needs, Shes extremely bright, I teach her everything she knows, And i chose to be a single Mum because her 'Dad' is a total loser and I don't want him having anything to do with her.

Single mums get too much stick. So they made a mistake, it's not all fun and games for them either.

Why a mistake? Many are in loving relationships that break down

The only mistake most of them make is getting involved with the dick head 'Dads'!

An annoying thing though, I was talking to a girl a few years ago and she was telling me that all her mates actually wanted to get preggers. They were like 16 and basically wanted that life. They saw having a baby as an excuse not to work.

i am a single mum yes i'm on benefits and live in a council house but i didnt set out to get pregnant just to get these things my daughter was a baby concieved on the pill but i dont agree with abortion so there was no doubt i would keep her and as much as i love her to bits being a single mum was not the life i would have chosen for myself it is not easy not in the slightest i'm not with her dad cos of how he treated me and yes i have claimed benefits but that is cos for me personally i couldnt put her into a nursery or similar i chose to have so i'm bringing her up now she is at school full time i'm looking for a job which is what i said i would do right from the start

sadly we are clumped into the stereotypes cos of a few who do purposely have a baby for the benefits etc i was 20 when i got pregnant so not even in that teen band but i still get put under the labels
i know 1 girl who had 3 under 3 by 3 different blokes before she was 18 purely cos she wanted to have her own place its people like her who give others a bad name

Most single mums are benefit scroungers, which is fair enough if they can't get help any other way. It's when they choose to live their life that way and have no intention of changing it.

Couple of years back I saw an old school friend. She was a bit of slut, even back then. I saw her with two young children, and she was heavily pregnant. One of her kids were black, and the other white. I couldn't believe it. People like that shouldn't be allowed to have kids. It's like breeding rats.

Problem with single Mothers is that they usually have sh!t taste in men. Which is why they usually end up as single Mothers.

I just wish they'd put more time and effort into choosing the right man to father their kids. One who is actually likely to stick around for that childs life and give them the father they deserve. Some women are just too selfish and don't even think about what the child will need throughout their life.

Im not saying single Mothers can't raise good children but it's certainly much harder and they deserve to have a balanced influence. It's sad when a child has never known a Father figure and Im sick of people pretending otherwise.

And I have no doubt whatsoever that a lot of problems in our society stem from the break up of the family unit. Kids just don't know who they are anymore and what their place in society is. The family structure is how they learn their place and also respect for their elders. Which has gone right out the window these days.

If he had sex without using a rubber - then he is not a poor bloke! He is just as responsible as her!

No theyre not. Theyre usually guilty of very bad choices. Nothing cool about that.

And a child having no Father figure isn't cool either. They lose out in many many ways. Not least by not having additional Grandparents and extended family.

Cool doesn't apply.

I don't agree most are - I think most work! And for a lot of those that don't work - it is only a temporary thing whilst their children are young!

Single mums are damned if they do, accused of neglecting their children, latch-key kids and all that, and damned if they don't, accused of being scroungers! And then there are those that say they shouldn't be allowed terminations and forced to have unplanned babies - then call them scroungers! At least they stick by their children - when a lot of the men don't!
Judgemental nonsense in my book!
