I think that like anything else, they suit some people but not others. I've only got my ears done, but I wouldn't mind having my navel done. I think nose studs can look really cute as well.

I used to know a guy who had his ears pierced all the way around, about 4 rings in his lips, two rings and a stud in his nose, and several in his eyebrows. Personally I didn't like the way it looked, but it's up to him. I should imagine he had to stay away from magnets though!

OK, now for the science................

I work in A&E and we see loads of infected piercings every week. believe you me, some of them are in places where the sun don't shine.

Please, before you have anything pierced, think about how it would be if it was infected and swollen to four times it's normal size, and not in a good way!

Each to their own and all that, but my pet hate is piercings inflicted on very small children. They have no say in it and it's cruel. Little girl ear piercings are bad enough, but please, not little boys, and why not leave them all to decide for themselves.

I managed to discuss the prospect with my sons when they were keen as teenagers to have their ears done - I didn't forbid because that would have sent them straight out to do it.

They are now in their early thirties and eternally grateful that I made them think twice about it.

Personally, I have my ears pierced and I went straight out to do it when I was 15 because my dad forbade me! I haven't regretted it at all, and I quite like nose piercings. My d-in-law has one, which was cultural/religious and I wish she still used is, because it really suits her.

I totally agree about the little kids with earrings, tiny toddlers with holes in their bodies just look wrong to me...
I got my ears pierced when I was eleven, with my mum and dad's consent, and when I was fourteen, my mum came with me to get my nose pierced.
She wasn't particularly happy about it (especially as she had to watch), but her reasoning was that if she came with me and signed all the forms, at least she could make sure the place was hygeinic and that the piercer was competent, rather than than risk me getting it done by myself in a really scummy establishment.

I cannot stand it when you see little children and even babies with piercings. Surely it's assault to do that to a child; they don't have a choice in the matter. People who do that to their kids should remember that the children are people, not dolls to be dressed up.

I always think when you see people do that, it's like they're using their kid as an accessory, modifying him/her/it to suit the parents own tastes. It's not as though the piercings benefit the child in any way, is it?

Totally agree with little kids piercings, especially when they have no say in the matter!

I don't have any piercings at all - my sister had her ears pierced and went through the "discharge" stage, which was v. disgusting and has put me off - although it's never been something that I've been particularly keen on! - On myself that is, they look very pretty in moderation. Less is more IMO!!

Imagine having your tongue pierced and getting a loop of spaghetti or noodles stuck round it eurgh!!

went to the place, made sure it was all clean nd professional nd that.. they had 7 certificates and the woman was very clean, washed her hands, put gloves on and asked me if i was ok with everything being clean and she asked me to make sure that i knew the needle nd clamp was new and not tampered with.. i was fine with that .. then she asked me to stick my tongue dout which i did.. then she dried it (which was disgusting!) and she put the clamp on and marked it (oh, and she said my tongue was really difficult as i had LOADS of little veins underneath so she had 2 make sure she didnt touch one).. finally shed finished checking and everything then she marked it and i was happy with the placement then she counted to 3 and the needle went it .. now im not going to lie to you'z .. it was extremely painful and i have quite a high threshold 4 pain by the way.. then the blood started and because i hadnt eaten anythin before (which i DONT reccomend doing - make sure u eat and eat and eat before you go!) i got really lightheaded ... now heres the part of the story where i got scared to death lol ..
right she asked me to stand up and wash my mouth out - however i physically couldnt stand because i was so lightheaded .. then the sweating started lol .. i got hot and cold flushes (yes, i am a dramam queen) so i had to lay down on the bed nd drunk loadsa water (the woman went bright red lol) and then .. well i dont remember anything after that as i passed out nd went into shock lol .. apparently id been outcold for 5 mins and had a tiny fit! then i suddenyl came round and said ''I passed out!'' lol i felt like a right pleb but she was really nice - laid me down on the sofa they had nd made sure i was ok even though she had loadsa customers lol .. then wen i felt ok i stood up, thanked her nd paid her nd went! its been about 2hours now nd my tongue is realllly swollen and ive eaten ice cream and a tiny bit of mash potatoes .. i dont feel up to eatin anythin else yet lol ..
so .. to sum up lol .. it DOES hurt (well it hurt me) and it swells.. ALOT!
but im sure ill love it when the swelling and pain goes and i can change to a smaller bar.

I've got my ears pierced twice in each ear, and all being well, I should be getting my ears pierced across the lobe (transverse lobe piercing) {if you see what I mean} at Christmas.

It does make breathing and eating a damn site easier for them, though.

I have both ears pierced twice, and my nose (on the side, not in the middle). Facial piercings (eyebrows, lips, etc.) make me feel ill, and I just find it very difficult to look at anyone that has them.
