Default Regarding modest amounts of alcohol in the house

It seems Ofcom and the drinks industry support modest use of alcohol.

From The Portman Group (drinks industry)

RESPONSE FROM THE PORTMAN GROUP TO THE CONSULTATION ON THE
PROPOSED OFCOM BROADCASTING CODE
http://www.portmangroup.org.uk/asset..._Code_resp.pdf

10. A similar concern arises in respect of documentary, drama-documentary and
‘reality TV’ programmes, such as Big Brother and Ibiza Uncovered. In the
case of the former, we regard it as irresponsible for the programme-makers
deliberately to provoke excessive drinking and drunken behaviour through the
provision of large quantities of alcohol. In the case of the latter, we regard it as
irresponsible to broadcast a programme which shows excessive drinking and
dangerous behaviour simply as entertainment.

you still get endless threads about the lack of alcohol made by morons that think bb are withholding alcohol just because they feel like it im sure they would love nothing more than to get them all pissed but they just cant anymore i gave up trying to explain it about 3 years ago.
bb have pushed the boundaries regarding alcohol as much as they can and they just cant do it anymore.

For the love of God and human reason, they are grown adults, just like the viewers at home and getting pissed is perfectly legal. Do these people get off on ruining people's enjoyment of everything?

you mean apart from risking a massive fine? for the sake of maybe 2 hours laughs giggles and maybe an argument? duhhhhhh yeah right well worth it why not.

although ive just been reading an ofcom report about alcohol on tv and the soaps eastenders, emmerdale and coronation street are the worst offenders your now only allowed to show alcohol on a tv show if it has context to the story corrie are the worst offenders they now have to log every scene and list the characters shown drinking, why and how many times.

i would love to see them all get ratted but it probably wont happen we might be lucky enough to see 2-3 of them get a bit tipsy but that will be about it you never know though they might 'accidentally' misjudge the units per person one night.

they have a good reason not to be dishing out the cider like they used to so slagging them off for it is just daft.

Ofcom's broadcasting code has been in place since 2002, that didn't stop BB giving the housemates plenty to drink up until BB7. Besides, the regulations on alcohol relate to responsible drinking, not being consigned to half a can of cider once a fortnight.

Nevermind, Ofcom's days are numbered. I never thought I would I have reason to be thankful the Tories were in power.

Don't get me wrong, BB's producers have been incompetent for years now, but I realise they are not fully responsible for the drink situation and they have to follow guidelines set out for them. But it frustrates me all the same. Is there any other country in the free world with such an insufferable control freak of a TV regulator? The absurdity of a post-watershed TV show that is allowed to depict bullying, foul language and misogyny, but can't show people getting drunk is comical.

yep and they got rapped on the knuckles again and again for it and they have slowly been reigned in every year they have come up with a new to try and get round the regulations but now they cant its over.

bb1-bb2 unlimited alcohol bought with the shopping budget.

bb3-bb5 only a certain percentage allowed to be spent on alcohol 20% (results in the entire lot getting cained in 1-2 nights)

bb6-bb9 only 20% of budget allowed to be spent on alcohol but to be kept by big brother and given to housemates at bbs discretion (sometimes they were given more if bb deemed them not to be drunk)

bb10-bb11 only 10 percent of budget can be spent on alcohol and is kept by big brother to be supplied by big brother and the amount doesnt exceed the safe reccomended limits of 21 units per week or 6 units per day.

they have been brought screaming and kicking to the situation we have now theres nothing they can do about it with the massive goverment drive on bingedrinking with initiatives like http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/

its not their fault they simply cant get away with it any more they have done well to get away with it as long as they did.

yeah i know exactly what your saying it is bloody infuriating i dont agree with it id love to see them all hammered.
but i also find the slagging off of c4/bb annoying theres nothing they can do about it i bet they want to get them pissed as much as we want to see it.
