Default Official Press Release: Tonights Task.

Big Brother housemates given the chance to phone home
Big Brother Live Task, Saturday 13th July, 10pm

Today, (Saturday 13th July) the housemates will be given their seventh task to complete during the live task show on Channel 4 which will entitle one of them a phone call to a loved one.

This week, Big Brother will test how well the group have got to know each other during the past seven weeks. They must work together as a team as the result will not only dictate the amount of money they have to spend on provisions this week, but will also directly affect the amount of time one of them will be able to spend on a phone call to a person of their choice.

At 10pm tomorrow, the housemates will be called to the diary room in turn and asked a question about one of their fellow housemates. This will be repeated three times. Each correct answer earns the whole group £20 to spend on shopping this week. Most importantly to the housemates, however, each correct answer will also entitle one of them an extra five seconds of phone time.

At the end of the task, the housemates have to decide amongst themselves which of them they feel most deserves the prize of a phone call to a family member or friend. The amount of time the lucky housemate will be allowed to spend on the call is dependent on the group’s success as a whole during the task.

I really hope that Jonny is chosen by his fellow housemates for the phone call tonight so that he can talk to his fiancee.

Yep, that was very good of Jonny to do that, seeing as he's been up for nomination a few time's and has been in the house from the start. If it keep's Tim from walking, it will have been worth Jonny giving it up. Tim should stick it out now whatever the public thinks it's only 2 more weeks after all.

I'm disappointed Jonny wasn't chosen for the phone call tonight.

Once again, his kindness came to the fore when he voted for Tim. What a nice man you are, Jonny.

At least Tim's tears seemed genuine this time.

Yep, he was geunine tonight. It still doesn't answer his questions about his girl friend though never mind, I bet he was scared to ask.

I couldn't agree with you more, Amy!

Alex was rude and obnoxious, and I've gone right off him!

Jonny was an absolute gentleman, he so desperately wanted to speak to Joanne but he gave that up so that Tim could have the phone call.

I've made up my mind and I am not going to change it this time.

From what Jonny did tonight could make him the winner. It was a selfless act. Alex was moody about it, I think he had a cob on about his mother calling him Poppy, and the others finding out.

It seems to me as if Alex turns a bit more into an old man every day he stays in the bb house

People often say Alex is funny, and I don't normally see it. But this time I did. The best "Alex" moment in the whole of BB3!

It wasand we really saw the true moany, crumpy side of Alex there. This could be the night where we decide the true winner of bb3. Jade's bungee jump was also a great insight as well.

"Hadaway and Shite, they wanna knaa aboot what subject ah would tek on Mastermind. Heh, heh, lerrus put down Ancient Egyptian Studies! No bugger's ganna ever knaa!"

My decision as to who should be made the winner was made final tonight. It was always between Alex and Jonny and now it has GOT to be Jonny.
Alex makes me laugh like no other but its not always down to that - its who you think deserves it the most and who is the most genuine and kindest.

JONNY TO WIN!!:danc e:

Jonny - or any of the other housemates for that matter - was hardly going to declare that he take the phone call himself. They all knew that doing that would look inconsiderate and selfish. A cynic might also suggest that Jonny knew that he would get credit for suggesting that Tim get the call, given that Tim is not his best friend in the house. Jumping in first to suggest this also made it look like an even more selfless act.

And I don't understand why people are saying that this task made Alex look like he was rude and moaning. I just didn't see it. He was quite abrupt when he - of course - said that he didn't want the call but he didn't actually say much during the whole thing.

Also I think that this task illustrates how housemates get on fairly well with Tim and there is a huge difference between how he comes across on TV and what he is like to live with. If they really thought he was as obnoxious as people on the outside make out, they would not have insisted he get the call.

I have no issue with Johnny, he's a nice enough bloke, but he was very controlling in that task.
He said straight away "right, I'll go first. It should be Tim." He more or less forced it onto Tim, Alex was saying 'don't make him take it if he doesn't want it,' but wasn't listened to.

Jade has been far more unhappy than Tim and surely Johnny knows that, the kindest thing would have been to give it to her.

Jade actually said, quietly 'I'd like the call' but then when she realised she wasn't going to get it, put on a brave face and said 'I don't want it.'

Johnny used the same tactics the last time the group had to make a quick joint decision, about Lynne/Jade. He said, "I'll go first, it should be Lynne." He argued the case and the group had to agree.

I must admit, I can't remember what Alex said or did that was rude. What was it? I'm not defending him, I just didn't notice it.

I just thought you might want to know the probable reason why Alex is called 'Poppy' by his mum!

A 'pop' is a doll, in Holland, and I would guess also in Germany.

Therefore she probably calls him 'Poppy' meaning little doll. much as Jonny might call a child 'poppet'.

ROB, mine of useless information, over and out!

I agree with queenie, that I actually thought Jonny was overly forceful in the discussion. Fair enough it was a nice gesture and I agreed with his reasoning behind it. But I just thought the way he put it across was that Tim HAD to take the call.

Alex did make this point quietly, but Jade and Jonny were both loud and did most of the talking. Overall, it was a group decision made by Jonny.

Oh and Kate did the right thing by saying as she had the message last week, she would let one of the others have the phone call this week.

I think Tim's face when he found out that Alex's mum calls him "Poppy" has to be one of the funniest moments on BB3 so far!

That makes two of us, ROB.

He seemed less than keen to have the phone call himself. He said something along the lines of 40 seconds not being enough time and he felt it would just upset him. That's all I noticed. What have ROB and I missed everyone?

I think Alex's face when everyone else heard his Mum calls him 'Poppy' was THHE best moment so far on BB.

PRICELESS

I think Alex was not being grumpy at all but Jonny certainly put his stamp on the moment for 'whatever' purpose.

We will see.

On an earlier show, one of the trick cyclists mentioned that the other housemates were looking to Jonny to take the leadership role.

On the occasion of the task, someone had to do it, and, whatever his motives, someone had to step in and Jonny did. Remember, they only had 4 minutes to sort it out.

Jonny's reasoning was good, and yes, he may have been rather forceful, but someone had to do it.

I think Alex's grumpiness was due to the "Poppy" revelation, and the guy has got to learn to laugh at himself, and he would find he fits in better. It was like the puppet task, when he was moaning about how Jonny would play him.

I don't think the task incident itself will decide how people will vote, but it will add to other accumulated incidents.

But I do think Jonny came out of it well. He showed a caring side, but also a decisive, forceful side. Add that to his comedy, his slapstick routines, and the problems of self-doubt he had a few weeks ago, and he does come out as a well-rounded character, no angel, but then who is?

People are starting to say that Jonny 'gave' the call to Tim.
Why was it Jonny's to give? He only got one answer right.

Surely Kate, with three right answers, should have been given the decision.

She did. She agreed. As did Jade. Jonny, Kate and Jade have put Tim's miserable behaviour in the last week down to TIm not being sure whether is was Johanna with his parents in the video last week and thinking she may have dumped him, and that he needed re-assurance after the "Get Tim Out" chants.

Tim was rightly grateful, particularly after what he has said about those three, particularly Kate and Jonny.
