Okay, my cat Lucifer hurt the pad on his dew-claw. It swelled a bit, then it went down for a while, then it suddenly swelled up again!
We took him to the vet, and he said Luce is running a slight temperature and that his toe is really badly infected. He gave us a course of antibiotics to treat the antibiotics to stop the infection, but he said that if it's still bad after the course is finished, that the bones could be infected, and his toe might need to be amputated! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the tablets will sort everything, I don't want Luce to go through surgery. |

Ohhh Fizz, I'm so sorry to hear Lucifer is unwell. I'm sure he will be fine honey. The antibiotics work wonders nowadays. And even if the worst come to the worse he will still be healthy and happy.

Thanks for the support, it's just that his paw is really hurting, he cries out if anything touches the infected area. I love animals, and get very attached to my pets. I hate seeing them in pain.

Oh no Fangz, I hope the antibiotics work. My dog got ill a couple of years ago and had to have an operation but she was fine soon after so don't worry if your cat has to have an operation, hopefully it wont come to that though.

Hey Fizz, I'm sure he will be fine. If the worst case scenario is toe amputation then that's not as bad as it seems. Cats have a natural ability to re-adjust their balance. He wont be too badly affected by it if they do have to remove it. That's better than having it sore all the time. Nothing worse than seeing them in pain.
Hopefully it wont come to that. Give him plenty of TLC. I'm sure your cat is as pampered as mine. Mine get treated like the kids in here! Take care.. I'm sure he will be just fine. Keep us up to date on his progress though. EDIT: And don't worry about him having a missing toe. Just look at Kizzy the 3-legged cat. She's doin alright for herself! |

Oh that's not good Fangz.
Cats can go through the mill in terms of injuries, I'm pretty sure Lucifer will be fine, regardless of whether or not an operation is needed. |

Thanks for the support guys, it means a lot. It's not so much I'm worried that he won't be able to balance with a toe missing, I just don't want him to go through the stress of an operation, he hates the vet.

Fangz im sure your cat will be fine, about 18 months ago our family cat slipped a disk in his back and he was in serious pain, at the time he was 10 and we thought that his days would be numbered. The antibiotics worked wonders, and he was only on them for about a month and he was fine and didnt need any operations, hes still with us today in fact, and funnily enough speaking of him, its his 12th birthday today, 23rd December. Happy birthday Golly

Of course I'll let you guys know how Luce gets on, it's only fair after venting my worries on you all.
I'm feeling a bit more positive now, and think Luce is actually starting to enjoy all the extra attention we're giving him. |

Just got back from the vet. Lucifer is having his toe amputated on Tuesday, and the vet gave him a steroid injection to keep the swelling to boost his immune system.
Since being prescribed the antibiotics, Lucifer has gained several cyst-like lumps on different parts of his body. The vet thinks they might be an allergic reaction to the medication, so he's been given a different course of antibiotics. |
