I have modded on games sites for over 10 years (not currently though) and it is kind of amazing to me that TiBB allows their mods to post in threads on their mod accounts.
Imo, it is really important for mods to seem impartial and neutral in order for them to do their job, and for me to trust them not to have an agenda in what they chose to act on or not (let alone not posting fat jokes and whatever in threads they probably should be closing). When I see a mod posting in what is basically a no value troll thread, adding their opinions, it just validates that thread and helps create a situation where it seems acceptable to act in a certain way, which can't be good for new traffic that drops by to see if they want to join here. I suggest maybe giving your mods a working account and a posting account. I am not saying they shouldnt have an opinion or input, just that it dosent look very professional joining in in general flame threads as represensatives of the site.

I suggested this in another thread about a week ago.
Doubt it will happen though, but it does work well on other forums I agree.

I assumed TiBB staff answered these threads here?

But that wouldn't involve logging on and off between the 2? James made an account called TiBB Staff now so people can't tell who is doing what.

the point is that TiBB staff are seen adding their tuppence to troll/ hate threads (such as fat hate threads) and that creates an environment where such threads are considered validated and acceptable.
that surely can't be what you are all looking for? As for logging between 2 accounts.. well, we just used to keep two windows open. If that isnt possible on this forum, well it's actually not a big deal to do that imo. I don't really care whch mod has issued me an infraction tbh, but I do care if they post offensive pictures and whatever as 'jokes' under their TiBB staff accounts, especially if I have already requested moderation to hopefully deal with the thread in question.

People are getting up with starting Fan Threads or even threads they politely ask 'haters' not to post anything nasty.. (but the haters still turn up and post stuff) yet a Mod can start a thread and ask not to post hater posts and yep they get deleted straight away etc.. seems unfair to me that dispite FMs complaining about posts that appear in Fan threads.. either nothing gets done.. or it takes ages for posts to vanish and the person that complains is not told whats going on
I feel let down by the mods on here and have ended up ignoring lots of posters who are daily 'haters' and spoil many a great thread with vile comments about Hms & FMs .. |

The logging on and off would be annoying. I think just one account is perfect. It's not a crime against posting. Some mods like to get involved aswell, on Big Brother Live Discussions and things like that.

No one is saying it is a crime, or the mods getting involved. In fact the OP dosent come anywhere close to that.

I don't really see why there's any need to have two separate accounts. The mods should be able to mod and come and talk normally on the same account.

I couldn't agree more.
It is a total mess. Mods adding their opinions, as you say, to problematic threads when they should be closing them. Mods moaning about arguments in threads yet doing nothing to combat it. |

If anything, being a mod on the science forum where I am a moderator and posting in a thread when not moderating, I find I am more circumspect than in the past as I have to set an example to others and some mods also feel the same way.
Sometimes we may not like a thread, but to be consistant unless there is a legitimate reason we can not just close the thread. As for posting on a thread that may have been started by a troll or a spammer, if subsequent posts to the troll and the spammer are on topic and within the rules, where is the issue? To create two sign in accounts seems pointless and unnecessary Finaly if you have a problem with a post or wish to appeal against a moderation decision then you can report the post or PM another moderator or admin.

Any reason why we should have to take endless hours of abuse just for punishing someone for breaking the rules?

no, it means that you can't blame Dezzy for every single infraction you get - if you took a minute to reflect on your aggressive and psychotic self you'd notice that it's not just him using some lame vendetta you keep dragging up.

I don't see the need for it tbh. Not that I'd know, but isn't it even harder work for mods to have to navigate between two accounts?
Plus, maybe I'm splitting hairs, but it kind of undermines the rules the forum has against multiple accounts.

If they knew who you were, you probably wouldn't be a moderator. You're not exactly a paragon of reason and impartiality, much less civil behaviour towards other members. Just saying.
