Nothing in excess
|
Melodic guitar-driven pop from the late 1980's. Includes bands like the Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine.
Although it's easy to berate this music for being a bit on the wet and theatrical side and, worse still, influencing Coldplay and the Editors... possible emo music too (  ), I think some of these bands produced some amazing songs. Not to mention some of the best guitar players of the 80's, not least among them Johnny Marr who needs no introduction and Julian Swales from the criminally underrated Kitchens of Distinction.
