Default The Army..

For the last six months now I have been seriously considering joining the army. One of my mates joined up and has gave me nothing but good feedback.

So today I finally put my mind to rest and went to an army recruitment centre and it's just blew me away. If you would have asked me a couple of years ago if i would have joined i would have straight away said no. But after hearing what is on offer and the kind of things you can get upto.

The funny thing is, is isn't all about blood and guts which is rather suprising.

You can do a whole range of things while your there, sports, education, trips away (ski-ing, canoeing, hang gliding) ... even down to little things like driving tests so if you decide to leave the army you have qualifications of which to fall back upon.

Plus I'm rather sad when it comes to knowing the names of nearly every weapon used worldwide in any army. So if all goes well, i may be joining the army in the not to distant future. Which infantry i do not yet know.

Na, we're trying to install a bit of leadership and democracy over there. We can't suddenly pull out when we want to, if we were to do that you'll make the situation ten times worse.

I'd actually like to go to Iraq and help there people. Can't be easy living there while people are being beheaded and ridiculed.

Thanks

I did the whole recruitment process when I was 17, then backed out at the final stage. I just decided it wasn't for me. I done and passed all the tests, health checks, physicals etc. I suppose I just wasn't 100% committed to begin with, which you have to be.

It's a good choice though, and you can gain a lot of life experience and skills that you probably wouldn't get back home. You have obviously thought about it a lot, and are taking it seriously. Good Luck to you mate. I wish you all the best with it.

We will miss you around here if you go (well, I know I will mate!).

Naah, seriously, if you decide to join the forces, the best of luck to you and I hope it lives up to all your expectations.

Ive considered it long and hard before.

There are obvious high points as you have mentioned, but there are also low points such as bullying, intimidation and possible death in action.

If your a strong tough lad, go for it. But discuss it thouroughly with mates/family and the recruitment team.

Tanser - not a bad move at all.

My hubby served with the Royal Engineers for 10+ years, he had a wonderful time and left as a qualified fitter so something he could bring to civvy street.

I loved the life we had when he was in the army, but I hated the nomadic lifestyle it turned into his last couple of years. First few were mint though and I will always remember them as the best times.

Hubby has always said it was a decision that he will never regret, he was in the first gulf conflict as a very young man and I think if truth be told he would go to Iraq in a heart beat.

With your wit and intelligence you will go far in the army.

Only problem is we will miss you if you go!!!!

Good luck Tanser! Might see you in there

I've got 9months to wait untill i can go the Army Foundation College to start the training..can't wait. You need to be 15 and 9months to start the training at the college, just two nights a week i think it is.

My mum is saying she won't sign me up when i'm 16 because u need ur parents permission to go in the army if ur only 16. if she don't then i'll have to wait till 18 to sing myself up, cause i am DEFINATLY going in lol. Mums are too protective. lol.

There are SOOOOOOOOOOOO many oppurtunities in there and it's great ur interested in it .... u got an idea what u wanna do in there?

R.E.M.E for me *fingers crossed* R.E.M.E = Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers!

I love rambling on about the army haha...then again i just love rambling on!
