Well I believe that we seek knowledge to have stronger mind and better understanding so we can rationalize why the things we know can hurt as against the old adage of "What you don't know, can't hurt you."
We also seek knowledge to find truth because it is better to see the light than living in the dark and be blind by choice.

I believe that 'ignorance is bliss' is merely a cliché. You can seek knowledge, be knowledgeable, and still choose to be ignorant to the horrible things in the world.
