Default Jack Duckworth gets a special farewell from Newton & Ridley

TV bosses will give Jack Duckworth the ultimate send-off by naming an ale after him.

Newton & Ridley – the brewery behind the Rovers Return – will make a commemorative keg in the memory of bitter-loving Jack.

New producer Phil Collinson came up with the idea as he was eager to make sure 69-year-old actor Bill Tarmey’s exit should stay in the memories of millions of Street fans.

A Corrie source said: “It’s a master stroke – what a brilliant way to remember Jack.

“And Bill loved the idea too. His smile was a mile wide when he heard they were going to introduce a special bitter in his memory.”

Jack is set to die of cancer and the bitter will go on sale in the Rovers after his funeral.

Aw that's sweet!

I'll be sad to see Jack go, a much loved character.

Is he ill in real life btw? Just wondering because in his latest scenes he seems very breathless and I've also noticed those huge, swollen, red bags under his eyes...

Yeah, it's a nice way for the soap to remember him

I don't think Bill Tarmey is well at all sadly

Really? I know he's suffered heart trouble in the past but it's such a shame to lose two of the most loved characters (he & Vera) to illness.

I hope he has a long and healthy retirement however and perhaps can find his way back onto our screens now and again.

That's brilliant news.

I hope he recovers and has a great retirement.
