Beware of e-mails supposedly coming from O2
Please Note
Quote:
We have been made aware that a number of emails have been distributed to both O2 and non O2 customers titled "O2 online Bill".
The e-mail has been designed to look like a genuine O2 communication and the content suggests that O2 will be taking money from a customer account for a monthly bill. The e-mail provides a link so that the bill can be viewed.
The site that the e-mail links to will attempt to infect the users computer with a virus and this e-mail has been sent with the specific intention of spreading this computer virus.
There are a number of content items within the email that highlight it is not genuine
1. It is addressed to "O2 Customer". A genuine email from o2 to notify you about your online bill will have your name in the greeting.
2. The bill amount is listed as £86.82
3. The links in the email are not to the O2 website.
You should not follow any links contained within the email and delete the email immediately
If you have up to date Anti-virus or recent security patches installed, no harm should come to your PC.
If in doubt about any emails purporting to be from o2, do not click on any links but go directly via your bookmarks or by typing in the o2 web address.
O2 is currently working to remove internet access to the remote internet site.
