Default Anyone know anything about Laptops?

Looking to buy a new laptop since this prehistoric s**t of a machine is starting packing up now.

I don't really wanna spend much more than £400 but could stretch to a MAXIMUM of £450. I'd say the most important things I'm looking for are a decent graphics card, a good screen and decent speakers (I do realise most laptop speakers are crap) as I'd use it to watch a lot of videos.

So far, I've found this Acer for £379 at Tesco: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-8796.aspx

It's got a decent graphics card from what I can see, and has a good Reevoo rating.

Be grateful if anyone could recommend a different laptop or if anyone actually has that Acer, I'd appreciate if they could just give it a quick review.

Thanks.

Acer is a good brand from my experience, I would avoid Dell if you are considering that because if you break it or anything it costs a lot of time, money and effort for them to bother with fixing it and they like to break. HP and CompaQ make great laptops too. :')

I have that acer laptop only my screen size is bigger, I use an acer desktop pc too and never had any trouble with any of them the only thing I would point out is the volume on the laptop doesn't go really loud but its ok for watching movies.

Ah right, I use headphones the majority of the time so that's okay. What's the quality of sound like. Not expecting much from a laptop, but it's still worth taking into consideration I suppose.

Thanks for the help.

Acer is a reputable brand these days and a world leader.

Truth is most laptops around that price range are of similar reliability. They all get their components from the same few places. So it comes down to who offers best price and best follow up service.

Processor(go for dual at least), hard drive storage, memory RAM(2gb at least) and graphics(if you're a gamer) are factors to look out for. Depends what you use it for really. If you watch videos a lot then a big screen(17") would be good. But if you carry it around then 17" will be a bit large. Blu-ray might be a good thing to get too.

That one looks a good bet for most needs.

You seem to know what you're on about

I think I'll go with the Acer then, decent price for what you get.

Thanks everyone
