OK we've had the 'royal announcement' but why now is Kate Middleton all of a sudden "Katherine Elizabeth Middleton" ???

Just googled.

Because it is her real name and she is getting married so she is going to go with Catherine.

She isn't going to get married with the name Katie as it isn't her real name.

I know it's her full name. I'm not stupid. I'm saying that all of a sudden people are referring to her as that when she's always been 'Kate'. She gets engaged and it's all of a sudden "Catherine Elizabeth" just cos she's marrying William.

Because that is her marital name so that's why I would imagine.

Its called etiquette, with the formal announcement of the royal engagement, her and billy have formed a contract, one of the by-products of this contract is the elevation from middle class shag for a future king to accepted member of the Royal Family and unless something happens with Charles and Camilla the next Queen.

What is your problem? - that is the name on her birth certificate and that's how it will appear on her marriage certificate. We call William "Will", but he will be King William and she will be Queen Catherine. Our Queen was/is called "lizzie", "Lisbet" and "Beth" by her family and friends, but she is Queen Elizabeth to the rest of us - that's protocol.

This is exactly what I was getting at. A totally valid point that has been rubbished. A debate? pfft.

You've just explained it better, but the bit in bold is what I was getting at so it would make perfect sense with the announcement of the engagement to call her by her birth name.

I don't have a problem thanks. I was simply saying she's all of a sudden referred to as Catherine by the media. I know perfectly well what her name is.What I mean is she's always been known and wanted to be known as Kate. Now an engagement makes the media call her Catherine. Why? Becuase it sounds more 'royal' ??

I haven't seen the name Katherine used at all...it's all been WILL AND KATE ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT, etc.

Yeah but there is a slight difference between being together as in having a relationship for a few years and living together. His royal williness sort of decided to have her live in first. Sort of took his nana's comment literally.
