Default who\'s britains best mass murderer?

My monies on Dr Harold Shipman.
if i was an old person in a lot of pain, i'd gladly go out with a massive heroin overdose, what a way to go!

i dont say this lightly, i dont think we should be kept alive at all costs. ok some of his victims still had a fair bit of life in them, and he was a bit naughty killing them off.

Well I met the lovely Dr Harold Shipman when I was a prison officer - he was the creepiest man I have ever laid eyes on but I think that was because I knew what he had done to get there!

Also had the pleasure of the company of a number of other notorious criminals - oh the high life I used to lead

Harold Shipman was not sending his patients gently into that good night.

He got them to leave him their money first. Nothing noble about the bloke. He was on a macabre power trip.

There is no such thing as a 'best' mass murderer. Maybe a most prolific, most evil etc, but not best.

I was going to say what ROB said. I don't think it's possible to name a best mass murderer.

Spot on again ROB.

Its not morally right to speak of the 'best' mass murderer. Imagine if you knew a victim of these dodgepots?

Although I did read a fascinating book on the Yorkshire Ripper a few years ago. This case is interesting in so many ways, right from the bumbling coppers to the hoax tapes. I was glad to see them nab the pillock who sent tjose tapes, but I believe that he should have got a life sentence.

By the way, did you know that Bruce Jones who plays Les Battersby in Corrie was once arrested on suspicion of being the Yorkshire Ripper, although he was quickly released.

People in this country have been relatively indifferent to the victims of this case because of their age. It would have been different if they were younger.

That is sad.

I am most disgusted by Myra Hindley. More so her because she blamed it on her husband and he accepted it; even though she clearly was just as bad as him. Also the fact she had 3 children and they abused them too... It's horrific to think of.

He should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. Having said that, it was many years ago, and may well be something that he would never consider doing now. But it doesn't change the fact that it bought the Ripper some more time, and possibly meant that some of the victims might not have been killed if the Police hadn't been concentrating on Humble's fake message.

But I'm amazed that the Police didn't seem to consider the possibility that the message might be a hoax!

I can't call any mass murderer 'best'. Best is a positive word, certainly not one that should be used to describe a cold blooded killer.

Well said Ruth.

How anyone can praise a murderer in any way is beyond me. I can understand the interest in crimes, but not celebrating them, unless its a glamourous heist such as the Millenium Dome diamond attempted robbery. Can you imagine the cheek of that?

I dont know how they thought they'd get away with it, the same for the recent Securitas heist.

I agree the wording best is not appropriate maybe notorious should be the word?

As for making them suffer - well their punishment is a restriction of their liberty, no some people do not think that is enough but it is our law!

I do believe a full review of sentences is needed as more often than not the punishment does not fit the crime!

Yeah I agree. Although I do not believe in the death penalty, I do think that murder should carry a life sentence - so that the perpetrator dies in prison.

Also, I can't stand all this 'time off for good behaviour' business. I think the person should serve the full sentence they are given, with time added on for bad behaviour!

yeah i think they should just get the worst punishment EVER in the whole of the world and teach them a lesson. Even when they go to prison it isnt good enough though because they have a life of luxury they have a bed, a tv, etc etc they should have really bad painful things done to them so they know whats coming if they ever do decide to hurt anybody!
