Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has been subjected to racist abuse during Italy's 1-1 draw with Romania.
The Manchester City striker was booed every time he touched the ball and was taunted by a group of about 100 extreme right-wing Italian fans. A banner of bearing the message - "No to a multi-ethnic national team" - was confiscated in Klagenfurt's HypoArena stadium where the match was played. Only 3,000 fans watched the game in Austria because of commercial reasons. Before his move to City from Inter Milan during the summer the Sicily-born Balotelli was subjected to racist abuse by Juventus supporters, who hung banners in their stadium last year which read: "A negro cannot be Italian". At the time of his move to Eastlands, Balotelli's older sister Cristina told BBC Sport: "Mario is very proud to be black and Italian. He wants to represent Italy. He was born in Italy. He's never been to Africa, not yet. His country is Italy. "It will be easier [in England]. In your football stadiums, you don't have these kinds of episodes. Mario is always painted as a bad boy - but there is a background of racism in Italian society. He wasn't forgiven for things that you would forgive other people for." Balotelli carried the only real threat in the first-half for Italy and managed two efforts on goal before he was replaced by Fabio Quagliarella on 59 minutes. Ciprian Marica gave Romania a deserved 34th-minute lead when he rifled home a shot only to then deflect in Quagliarella's header eight minutes from time. "I feel disappointment and anger," said Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, referring to the racist abuse directed at Balotelli. "We always hear these chants and something has to be done about it. We feel helpless. He has the support of everyone." City forward Balotelli is currently serving a three-match suspension after being sent off in Manchester City's win at West Brom on 7 November. He is ineligible to play against Fulham on Sunday, but will be available to play for City against Stoke on 27 November. What kind of fan's treat their own player like this.. ****ing disgusting and all of them who were involved should be banned for life.. Racism has no place in football at all it's not the first time he has been subjected to this either and it won't be the last until these ***** are banned

It seems to happen all the time, I've seen a lot of reports about racism in Italian football and I think it's just sad really. Any fans carrying racist signs or acting as so should be ejected and I agree Andy, ban them for life.

The racism is wrong, but i fully understand that they hate him and why they hate him.
Ac milan fans have always thoughts he was a twat didnt know it was anything racist, about 2 years ago it was all down to his arrogance. Hes the most arrogant footballer ive ever seen, and hes deserves to be abused, the racist banners and slurs are wrong though. I remember it happening to shaun wright phillips against spain, but that was the spanish supporters.

Obnoxious
Aarogant Bad Anger Provokes other players - (for example in champions league last year when Inter played Manchester United he tackled and pushed down C. Ronaldo and then aggressively told him to get up. Ronaldo just laughed at him) When he scored he went up to Panucci (a veteran soccer player for Italy and Rome) told him to shut up then went to the roma fans and started yelling at them aggressively Every Serie A teams fans against him. He thinks he is the best player in the world and has a bad attitude towards the coach and his team mates. Once i remember hearing on the sport news that he had skipped practice because Mourinoh (inter coach) did not let him start in a game he was promised to start in. -Taken from an italian Roma fan- Its no wonder they hate him really.
