That's the way the cookie crumbles. The man won, through votes - the public (regardless of which section), but the majority of the public watching the show who partook in voting: voted for him to win. You don't think he deserved it, you're clearly in the minority. |

But I wasn't even talking about like/dislike, just from a very neutral point of view, some of Matt's popularity derives from sex appeal - why does pointing that out make someone jealous? I've never understood this. -backs away from thread-

Oh, so when women win, its just because the women have forgotten to vote for the 'fitties' then :')

I doubt it. Oh, I'm not being personal, I'm giving my opinion on your comments and how your comments are being read. You personally may not be bitter, but that is how your posts are coming across: loud and clear. |

Well the only times they've won is when they've been against considerably less talented people or because of a well done duet. If the voting was equal then surely Candy Rain from last year would have done better then they did as they were good looking girls but since women are the majority voters they never stood much of a chance.

You seriously don't think you aren't going completely overboard on this? Seriously? It's a show. The man won. It's over. |

I'd say good looks aid talent; in the same way it aided One Direction - but looking at how well Matt did in the votes every single week, it's obvious that his talent was what took him so far, I just think it's silly to get into arguments about jealousy when it's just a natural thing that good looks will endear contestants to people who find them attractive.

Isn't it the same thing when say Rhianna and Christina are liked because of their bodies ,and men are commenting on boobs etc, isn't their popularity derived from sex appeal,

I'm not i'm discusiing this calmly and reasonably, you're the one trying to paint me as some sort of raving lunatic instead of trying to take on my very valid points head one.

Feel free to vent of course, but I certainly don't think your posts sounds as though you are calm or reasonable about it all. You seem to simply not be able to accept that the man won fair and square. That's the very valid point you seem to be missing I'm afraid. |

that is nothing to do with it, last year Joe sang last and won the year before Alexandra sang last and won, he topped the votes every week bar one, he was just more popular

It is also true he is great with ballads but not so hot when it comes to rock and roll/pop. The 'irrational' part seems to come along when we ask 'compared to what'? Compared to Celine Dion? Compared to Michael Buble? Compared to what a flawless singer ought to sound like? More importantly here is - compared to what other contestants? Matt's 'flaws' were still better than most any other contestants bests. Matt's weaker 'low note' was still a much better low note than (for example) Cher's best low note. Matt's slight struggle with rock and roll was still sung levels beyond Katie's best Rock and Roll performance. and so on.... Even here it becomes the overall comparison. Matt's strengths were very strong and heavily outweighed his weaknesses. This cannot be said for other performers who (for example) maybe could sustain a low note better than Matt but did not come close to him on (example) high-notes. The question isn't whether or not Matt is the perfect singer in the UK or world today and therefore deserving of this. The question is "was Matt the best in this competition" and yes he was. Having said that - I still LOVE Rebecca and I don't consider there to be a huge gap between those two. Mary is another. But justice was served and here is the thing with Matt - he CAN improve his slightly weak areas. (and he does not have to do rock and roll either). |

Yeah, very consistent and good.
Although Gamu, Aiden, TreyC and Cher were my faves. Matt was next and very deserving |

He was unbelievable from day 1 to now. He took revenge for Rhydian and Olly.

We all have our favourites and in a show like this we will like maybe a fair few of the acts and not just one act. We may even support more than one act too with our votes.
The point made as to being on first being a disadvantage(made by jesus christ/jedward fever) is a very valid one, as even Simon states singing first can put you at a disadvantage as people forget the performance sometimes. The main point is that not only has Matt won but it would appear he has been the front runner for all the series, always being in the first 2 placings each week. That must be a record in itself. He is therefore a very worthy winner and he is also a good winner too, he has an incredidble vocal range and his recordings and concerts will be extremely good. It appears in fact that only Rebecca could have likely ever maybe just had a chance to win this but the others were always either rather low in votes or out the running from day 1. Well done to Dannii too, she got some stick for giving him female stars songs to sing but as he has been in the first 2 placings and in first place for most weeks in the series, then her choices clearly struck well with the public, she has done a superb job on Matt, she is the only judge/mentor to ever get the winner and runner up in the same final and she now has this win with Matt. Well deserved to both her and Matt and if I was ever on X Factor I would want Dannii as my mentor. Matt simply in this series, wiped the floor with all the competition, that cannot be taken away from him, like him or not. Last edited by joeysteele; 13-12-2010 at 09:31 AM. |
