I remember when my eldest son was college EMA was only being given to students in certain boroughs, so we had a situation where my son, who lives in Bromley, was not getting EMA, whilst students in the next borough (Lewisham) were, and those students would only put in enough appearances to qualify for it every week. I'm really glad it's being scrapped, since there are already hardship funds available in every college for those students who really can't manage, but I resent funding their social life with my taxes.

It was funny when they were showing the protests. None of the students could make a decent argument to why they actually needed it lol

Those protests were about an increase in student fee's nothing to do with EMA

It's not to do with boroughs. It's got to do with your parents yearly income. If both your parents jointly earn less than about 30 grand a year, their sprog is entitled to EMA. A tenner a week if it's just under 30 grand, 20 quid a week if they earn even more less than 30 grand, and 30 quid a week if they earn quite a bit less than 30 grand a year.

Anyway I agree. Whether you are poor or not. It's a good thing it is being scrapped. The majority of it is being funded for the students social life.

However.. now that it is scrapped. Each student should be taken care of individually financially. If they really can't afford to get to college or whatever then give them money for a bus. Text books for a course.. most are available in a library. As long as the college's are up to scratch with free computers, printed paper and all that available then the students have all what they need.

Wonder what will happen now? Will students still go to college? Will more be living on the dole. Maybe they will end up breeding and think it's as easy as a click of a finger to have their own council house then they are set up for life? I think more people will end up like this. However in this country we need more job opportunties. To be honest this is why White British people are emmigrating. Because it is easier to get a job behind a bar in a resort in Spain or somewhere? << Or I could be wrong?

At the end of the day White British people have to try harder to find a job. Even jobs that are beneath them. This is why foreigners are welcome to our country because a lot of them will work for peanuts and do the jobs that White British people won't do. However some foreigners are like White Britain's in the respect of taking advantage of the welfare system! Ok I think I am going off the point.

True. A foreigner at work said to me he paid 15 grand or whatever to get into the UK. I think that was his UNI fee's. He must have saved all that money up just to come to the UK then? Because isn't the reason most foreigners come here is for the opportunities? Because they are living in poor surroundings in their own country? However 15 grand is a lot of money. A lot of English people, even with kids don't have that amount.

Yes Students need to work harder. However a lot of White British people will have no choice but to leave the country because they can't even find a job.

Sorry I am content in the job I have and don't want to lose it

I got my job because really thanks to someone who I know who know's someone I applied for it. It mostly is a case of not what you know.. but it's who you know.. sad but true. I think I am better than quite a few people at my job. Anywho if I didn't have my job.. like I said.. I would still go for worse jobs such as fast food restaurants and cleaner and that. Most jobs are better than JSA.

I get EMA, and tbh I dont really care that its being scrapped.
I don't go to sixth form just for the EMA. I just decided I might aswell get it as its free money and I've saved it for uni.

I get EMA at the moment. Don't really see the point of it though, I don't need it or anything. Saving most of it for a holiday to America and spend the rest of beer on a Friday/Saturday.

Why would anyone say no to free money though

People in college need money

Should be at the very least Ł30 a week (some only get Ł20).

Students CHOOSE to go to college, so why should I be funding their social life? If they want money, let them work for it like everyone else.

And again, there are always hardship funds available for any student in GENUINE need, not those who consider the EMA as pocket money.
