Default Help Mee Please!

Helloo, can anyone help me? Right, on my computer, i have a virus protection (Norton i think) and yesterday something appeared telling me that it had ran out and i must renew it in order to be protected against any new viruses. My brother clicked on 'Renew now' and a t'internet window came up with all new virus protections etc. Anyway, 2 things....

1. What do i actually have to do? Do i buy the 2006 edition and install the disk or do i do something else?

2. Am i still able to use my computer and my internet whilst i haven't renewed it yet? Or will that brake my computer/t'internet or get viruses?

Any help would be luvla..JAMES, KAZ, or clever people lol or just anyone who could help me.

My mum & dad are thick on computer's and i'm the best in my house and i don't know so thats why i'm asking! Thanks in advance.

nortons allows you to subscribe to a 12 monthly subscription.
To do this it must be a recent nortons..so nortons antivirus 2004 for example cannot be updated..if its a recent version of nortons go to the live update subscription page and you can pay to update it online.
You can still use nortons now and your protected but because you cannot update your vulnerable to any new viruses.
Personally i would just download the free version of AVG its pretty effective and has free updates forever.

You can still renew Norton Antivirus 2004 - info on how to do it here and renew page here.

It costs about 29.99 in US dollars - I couldn't find the UK price.

oh is it 2003 that you cant update now..i know its one of them.

edit : its nortons firewall that doesnt let you resubscribe unless its a new version.
the antivirus was because you had to get the later version for xp ( latest antivirus doesnt work on 98 ).

Norton AV 2002 can't be renewed anymore, I believe.

Avast is another free antivirus program I've used --> http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

your only at risk from viruses created since your last update,so yes your at risk but its minimal for now..each day you leave it though your risk increases.
just be careful what you download and make sure you have your firewall on.

*apologises in advance for now sounding like a *******

Right, if i download that AVG then will i be ok to use my computer from now on without being vulnerable to viruses?

And won't i have to renew my norton one if i download AVG? Also, do i have to do LiveUpdates with AVG and if yes then how do you do them?

I'm sorry about this and also about the daft questions lol but i just want to be careful that my computer doesn't cock up and sooo close to BB7.

Thanks AGAIN!

hiya..
ok once you have downloaded and installed AVG your next step is to update it..if you have installed it correctly you should see an avg icon on your taskbar..it will be grayed out if it needs to be updated, when its not needing an update it will be a yellow, black, green and red icon( 4 little squares ).
To update it make sure your online and right click the icon and go for check updates..this will then automatically update and install the updates for you.
The other way to do it is simply click on the icon it put on your desktop then go to check for updates.

Once you have updated it then you are completely safe but updating it is a must, any other problems you have updating let me know.

You dont have to update nortons anymore but if you are running 2 anti viruses in windows start up it will be a bit more demanding on your memory sources, see how you go with avg and if you feel confident with it you can get rid of nortons or at least switch it off in start up.

So just to be clear you must first install AVG,then update it then you are safe
