It turned out to only be a Cat-2 storm by the time it hit land. The Gulf Coast gets like 20 of those a year. Toughen up Australia!

Just to correct you, it was a Category 4 when it hit land. 3 miles in, it turned down into a category 2.

It would be very rare, because the cyclone season starts in early December. At the start of the season the cyclones are at around about Category 1-2. Wouldn't do that much damage anyway.
