Default New/younger members

At this time of year, we tend to attract a lot of new members and a majority of these are youngsters in their teens.

It can be quite easy to get annoyed by the type of posts these newbies make and it can cause friction. It can be very off putting and the text speech is a pain to read.

The reason I started this thread was to plea for leniancy and tolerance towards them. We all share the common interest of BB.

I remember when I first joined in 2002. I was posting in all capitals, and not using correct punctuation. TiBB was my first experience of forums and internet debate- and its the same for a lot of the new people that will join over the coming months. I soon learned what is expected and the etiquette for forums. I was politely told this and got the hang of it.

As long as the newbies read the rules correctly, we should be fine.

Well said, cc100.

I said something similar in another thread, where a new member posted .... and was bluntly told by another member that what they had said was irrelevant to the thread, and then not to use text speech. Hardly welcoming.

EVERYONE has been a new member at some point and have had to 'find their feet' around the Forum. Please try and cut them a little slack.

It often takes a lot of courage to make your first post on a new Forum. The last thing you want is for someone to jump down your throat and make you feel unwelcome.

Could 'established' members please bear this in mind ....... thank you.

The Admins and Mods are here to ensure that posters keep within the Forum guidelines, and we try to do this to the best of our ability. We're quite easily recognisable ..... we either have the word 'Administrator' or 'Moderator' in our title!

I can remember my first post, which was only about 5 months ago! I had people moaning at me which wasn't the best welcoming. I finally got the hang of things and learnt the rules. Itll take a couple of weeks for new members to get to grips the rules. I hate it when other members always moan at new members though!

Good comments!

I try to be as welcoming as I possibly can!

I can't remember my first posts, but it'll undoubtedly help new members settle in if they're warmly welcomed!

Totally agree with your comments cc100 and Kaz.

I know from when i first joined TiBB it takes a bit of time to get used to things so its only fair we give the newer members a chance.

Well said CC100 and Kaz. Totally agree.

I remember when I first joined along with Hells Angel we were forever being reminded of the rules but eventually got the hang of it with some help from "established" members like Hooly and Kore!

I think this "established member" title is rubbish - the minute you join this forum you are welcome, you are established and if you do get things wrong then hey what they hell we all make mistakes and you will be guided by an Admin or Mod if you need to be guided at all.

Lets make sure that any new members are welcomed and shown a little bit of tolerence when they first join

I do sometimes get annoyed with new members but then i look at my first post and it was terrible all the spelling mistakes (i know i still have spelling mistakes) but i do think ive got better and when i was a "newbie" i was told of by two members for text speaking so i stoped altogether, but i think the thing is im so used to speaking with the real spelling everytime i text someone i find it hard to read what they are saying

Totally agree with your comments cc100 and Kaz. But the new members need to learn not to be silly.
