Default Spotify

Sorry if there's a thread for this, but yeah. Discuss Spotify I guess.

For those who don't know, it was a great free music player, which is legal, and contains millions of tracks for you to listen to free of charge. Only drawback was the adverts, which you get used to. You can make playlists and it was amazing.

However yesterday it was announced that to "help stop piracy" they have to reduce the free version a lot. That means, now you only get 10 hours of music per month rather than 20. It also means you can only listen to each song a maximum of 5 times, which is really stupid.

WTF? I loved Spotify, and I thought it was great how I could basically listen to as much as I wanted, but 5 times per song? That's ridiculous...

I'm not being funny, but I don't see the big deal with what they are proposing to do. I think it is a fair thing to do. All businesses need to make a profit and they need to make a viable amount of profit. For the price of a CD, you can get a whole month worth of free music available to you at home and on the go, without having to worry about bad quality or having to make a decision over which song to buy, as you have an unlimited amount of music. It's a bargain really, and I'm sure they will gain a lot more money now as many people will be using the premium service. I've been using it for about 4 months now and I have about 35/40 albums downloaded to listen to on the go and about 200 random songs that i just add onto my offline playlist when I feel like it. Fair enough if they want to get more people buying premium.

Limiting the amount of hours per month is one thing but putting a 5-play cap on each song is diabolical, especially when there's other places (YouTube for example) where you can listen to tracks over and over.

I wouldn't religiously pay for their Unlimited service when I could use that money to buy my own copies of the songs I want to listen to.

I imagine they'll lose a lot of users over this.

I got the notification today I've used this software since the early days when it wasn't really heard of. If it does go really lame I may pay for it as I use it everyday so it would be worth the money.

I didn't know this, I'd been thinking of getting the unlimited one anyway so will probably do that.
