Default Twitter secrets: Details of British users to lawyers

Reported today
the first time SF , Calif., based Twitter
gave up British users that were attacking a English council
in a illegal fashion.

This is a turning point.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...r-legal-battle

"The social network has passed the name, email address and telephone number of a south Tyneside councillor accused of libelling the local authority via a series of anonymous Twitter accounts. South Tyneside council took the legal fight to the superior court of California, which ordered Twitter, based in San Francisco, to hand over the user's private details."

Like a MP said they can't lock up all the people that have mentioned it on Twitter.

Everyone was still mentioning it after the truth finally came out..

No but in this Slander Case
of attacking a Local Council
it has become a Landmark case.

It changes the Rules.

Arrow Lawyers target Twitter again over super-injunction leaks

http://www.techradar.com/news/intern...n-leaks-963262

Quote:
Lawyers acting for Ryan Giggs have started new court proceedings to force Twitter to hand over further personal details of those who tweeted Giggs' name in reference to super-injunctions.

Twitter will be forced to comply if the action is successful, meaning that it will hand over users' names and contact information - it's not clear exactly how many users will be targeted.

But if your details are set to be handed over, you should find out ahead of time thanks to Twitter's policy of notifying users that their account information has been requested, "unless we are prohibited from doing so by statute or court order".
Just enough time to pack a bag and head for South America .....

Disgusting... if I were Khan, I wouldn't hesitate to take this up with the European Court of Human Rights.

Also, I'd be interested to know how council tax payers in South Tyneside feel about their money being squandered on hounding a whistleblower in a foreign court.

We need libel law reform and now.
