- You found out you were at serious risk of cancer (or another disease) ??
For instance, breast cancer running through your genes and after a test you find out you do carry that (cancer) gene? Or would you leave it to chance and fight it IF it happened? I understand many women have a mastectomy to avoid the chance of breast cancer (though not foolproof) despite the fact they are clear. The chance alone makes them go ahead Thoughts? |

I'd go with the surgery
There was this thing on the tv about these 2 daughters who had there whole stomachs removed because nearly everyone in there family got cancel from it..now everything they each has to be monitored and food goes through them within hours, crazy |

I'm one of those silly dreamers in life that believes what will be will be. I don't think I could even go through with a test to see how at risk I am. I kinda know anyway. It's not the best :/
If it happens, I'd fight |

I would have radical surgery only if it made me rich and famous, or at least just rich, I could do without the fame I suppose.
Like actually rich I mean, not just like 500k or something, like 5 mil.

Re the OP - I'd go for the surgery. Re the above post: Cryogenics and cryonics is an area I find fascinating!! Not sure about the immortality bit, but being frozen and awoken 100 years down the line - it would be a serious mind blow, but one I'd love to experience!! Just a shame it's not possible . Yet..... |

I think if you've seen someone die from breast cancer, and you know that you are at a high risk of getting it yourself, even the most drastic surgery wouldn't seem quite so frightening in comparison.

I wouldnt. I wouldnt even have a masectomy after finding out I did have breast cancer.
I dont agree with it at all. Its playing god :/ I wouldnt even want a transfusion or anything if, say, I got knocked over. And I definitely wouldnt want to be kept alive on a machine while they tried to sort me out. That said, my father was in a serious motorbike accident a few years after I was born, he needed loads of blood and had to have his spleen out too. I dont know what I would have done if he held the same opinions as me and hadnt had the surgery :/ I expect my opinions will change when/if I have kids though. Also, for saying I dont agree with it...I do give blood and am on the donor list. Little hypocrite that I am ![]() Last edited by Vicky.; 30-07-2011 at 04:19 PM. |

I wouldn't have surgery straight away but, if I did happen to get cancer and surgery could potentially save me, I'd have it then.

A pretty radical view to hold Vicky and I admire you for the honesty. Have you been in any life threatening position personally - I mean that affected you yourself, that has tested your belief? I only ask as there have been several situations that I always had a very strong view on how I would react if it happened - and when it did - things changed when faced with x/y/z on a personal level. |
