Default "Act of God"

Should insurance companies get away with not paying out due to "acts of God??"

Thunder, lightning, floods, tornados (the list goes on). What makes these acts of God? They are acts of nature.

Just watching a film now, true story, about someone who's boat was struck by lightning and the insurance wouldn't pay up so he sued the church

When the accident is no one's fault, then I think it's just tough luck sadly :\

But - the victims of the Titantic got compensation although it was officially ruled as an "act of God"

My main point is, you buy insurance to safeguard yourself/your home/your family. Obviously you may get flooded or your roof blown off. Why the hell should companies not pay up?

If its classed as 'Act of God' then God is to blame and they should cough up

People pay for safety give them it.

But "Acts of God" and "Acts of Nature" are one and the same.

If something happens that is out of mankind's control then it is nature or "God".
Insurance company should cover them.

That is what I am saying. It's nature. Not some unseen/unknown being

Acts of nature should be covered.

Figure of speech or not - acts of God is just silly

I agree, insurance companies should pay up in spite of the 'act of God' clause. However if they were forced to then all they do is vastly increase the premiums for insurance cover.

Yes, they should though.

If insurance companies are going to pay out for things that they currently don't pay out for, all our premiums are going to go up because insurance companies will never lose financially. So no... I think they should leave the system as it is.

Just call it acts of nature. I think it should be changed as part of a de-religification process

The insurance company should have to prove the accused did it. If they are not able to offer proof then they should pay up.......

It's an expression that legally allows insurances companies to legally swindle people out of their due right....

As Livia said though, if insurance companies were made to pay out they would just make premiums much higher, unless they could be forced to pay out under the existing system then that would be the fairer way.
