Sky News has been given a clean bill of health following an investigation in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal which engulfed News International.

The news broadcaster’s audit and risk management team conducted a three-week review into the business’ financial records to hunt for any improper payments made to private investigators.

A Sky spokesperson said no issues had been found. “There has been no suggestion of impropriety at Sky News and we remain committed to the highest standards,” she said.

The investigation was prompted to check good governance was in operation at Sky News due to the huge amount of media coverage into journalistic practices after the News Of The World was alleged to have been paying private investigators to hack into the phones of celebrities.

News International’s plans to spin Sky News off into a separate company to enable its proposed takeover of Sky were scrapped after it dropped the bid in the wake of the hacking scandal.
