Default Possible new format for BB4!

According to the Sun Online today, BB producers are currently in talks about a possible new format, which has been tried out in American BBs:

BIG BROTHER could be inside the Channel 4 house during next year’s series.

Bosses are in talks to cast a contestant as head of the house for the first time in the show, hosted by DAVINA McCALL.

The lucky contestant would live in luxury with a private bedroom, stereo and posh food, while the others get basic rations.

The head of the house would call the shots and pick two contestants for nomination each week. The idea is being tried out in the US version of the show and has impressed chiefs at Endemol, BB’s production firm.

It is being billed as the follow-up to this year’s “heaven and hell”, in which the house was split into rich and poor sides.

The trial caused a string of furious bust-ups in the house.
Endemol boss Peter Bazalgette said: “We are interested in the head of house idea, which is working well in the States. It’s like having Big Brother inside the house.”

Channel 4 wants to make sure the series is next summer’s most talked about show.

This year’s series was the highest-earning BB so far, making £20million profit from phone votes, merchandise and sponsorship.

Don't think I like this idea - it's just another way of causing conflict and setting the housemates against each other, same as the bars did this year.

What do you think? Good or bad?

I agree Kaz. I saw the start of the American one where this was piloted and was very dubious about the idea then.

I really did hope that they would bring back the format from BB2 next year but, obviously they have other ideas.

I think that this is the way they want BB to go now (9 weeks of bust-ups, bitching and backstabbing) and I, for one, am very sad about it.

Can the producers of BB not get it into their thick skulls that the easy formats work - they love trying out these new ideas but half of them dont work, well one hasnt - the bars!
I just wish they would understand how much people enjoyed the old format and it was so easy!

Sounds like another 'focus group' idea to me. Haven't they learned anything? Why they want to create continual conflict is beyond me. OK, we don't want it to be cutesy pie all the time but there is a huge difference between conflict that arises naturally from different personalities and 'forced' conflict - the latter has a rather sadistic twist to it.

OK saying it worked in the states is pure crap

The US version changed it totally so that the HoH nominated the people.

I think having a HoH would be much simpler than the divide

If just one person had luxury and everyone else had it like BB2 then it would cause more resentment.

Maybe they wouldn't have a vote or would be able to change one of the nominees

What we want to see is evolution not revolution.

There were small changes between series 1 and 2 that improved the concept. For example, the housemates carrying out what they had learned, in a re-enacted emergency rather than just answering questions improved the first aid task.

The big changes made to series 3 made it worse.

learning the task over the week also made it more interesting 2 watch.............ok make the final test live, but not the whole thing, heres no build up which is boring in my book, and i realy dont like the 'basic rations' thing 4 ne1.......it stops natural interactiion - which i luv 2 watch

Why have they got it into there heads that we have to do everything they do in America. Keep the old format, this one sounds just like the bars idea. I don't know why they have to turn it into Survivor that's a completely different programme in it's own right. Bring back Deany Wenny and has guitar, is what I say.

How about starting our own revolution and taking over the planning. We could do it our way. Oh my god its got to be better than the new ideas - WE ARE NOT AMERICA. To my mind they went a long way to ruining it this year, but these new ideas. The mind boggles.

Channel 4 are only interested in making the most money they can from BB, they saw profits go up with changing the format, so they will keep changing it to try and boost ratings

BB will sadly go down hill then what will we do watch all our old tapes

We all saw how lonley Tim was on the rich side, on his own, I would'nt like to be the leader

Leave it alone C4, WE LOVE IT AS IT IS

Well maybe more as last year's format

Why change it anyway? I agree with bananarama.

If they do change it, let them win parts of the house. And make them self sufficient (ie Escape to river cottage & The Good life series) so there will be minimal need for shopping
