It's not every day that you can say you found an elk in your back garden. Actually, it's not everyday you can say that you found three elk in your back garden, let alone all three appearing to be engaged in a threesome.

Peter Lundgren from Lindome, Sweden, caught the surprising sight on camera after stepping outside of his bedroom.

"I had just gone out on the balcony to get some fresh air," he told The Local. "They were eating apples and then suddenly they assumed the position."

Lundgren explained that elk are a common sight in his part of Sweden, and that they often appeared in people's backyards.

"I'd never seen anything like it. Not with elk, at least," he added.

Researcher Pär Grängstedt explained that it is quite rare for elk to perform sexual acts in residential areas. However, it is apparently not unusual for there to be more than two elk present.

"Usually there are several males in the area competing to be with the in-heat female," he said. "The strongest one usually wins, and the others are left to watch. It's quite normal behaviour."
