SHE vowed she would never bring her children up in the North.
But now Geordie Big Brother star Narinder Kaur is moving back to Newcastle.
The 36-year-old, who found fame in the second series of the reality television show, is setting-up home in Gosforth with her husband and two children, after deciding to leave London so she can be closer to her ill mum.
The mum-of-two, who grew up in West Moor, North Tyneside, caused controversy two years ago when she said she would never bring her children up in Newcastle because the area is too racist.
Last night, however, Narinder told how she and hubby Jatinder, 38, are looking forward to raising children, Jeevan, three, and Deevah, one, in the area, and how she hopes attitudes have changed since she left Tyneside at the age of 19.
She said: “Newcastle has changed a lot since I last lived here. If I was worried about racism I wouldn’t bring my children here.
“Newcastle is a lovely city and a clean city and I think it will be a great place to bring my children up. We will just have to see how it goes. When I was growing up I was the only Asian person at school but at the nurseries we have chosen for Jeevan there will be other children from ethnic minorities.
“My mum is very poorly and as a daughter I want to be near her.”
Narinder — who has lived in London since 2002 — admits her husband did need some persuading to leave the capital behind.
She said: “I think he’s a bit worried about it but he really likes the nightlife in Newcastle,” she said. “I think the city is really up-and-coming, we are quite excited. And at least I know the shopping is good in Newcastle.”
After leaving Big Brother, Narinder worked in radio but took a break after having children, she is hoping to revive her showbiz career.
