He was saying it's nice to see him smile because there weren't many opportunities to see it in the house. Some people get offended by anything.

The whole interview was just tip-toeing around the issues. I like Brian and I loved him in the house (both times) but I have to say now that these interviews were not good. They are too rushed and there's no depth. That might not be Brian's fault because the interview's are short but then rather have a couple of good questions that they can answer a bit longer, not just questions that require yes or no answer. I don't get anything out of those, especially when I have watched the series and I already know how they would answer. And Brian's humour doesn't work scripted. I think he's so much better when he comes to BOTS and it's not so formal anymore.

I like him more now as the host than I did when he started the last CBB. And I loved his energy on BOTS last night when he "****ing loved" Denise winning. He can be annoying at times but he's a true soldier who has been in the house and out a few times...always a winner. I thought he did a fine job in the interviews. Don't get me wrong, I though Davina was amazing, but she did push a bit and seem rather rude at times. Brian gets the job done and is polite. Save behaving rude for BOTS.

I agree about the tip-toeing. That could get the accusation of bias even more if he sounds tougher on HMs but as long as he doesn't have favourites it should be ok to be more probing. The problem is it was obvious he had favourites and yet he and Emma denied it as if they think we are idiots. Brian revealed on BOTS that he loved Denise as if that wasn't obvious to anyone with more than a few brain cells already.

Really, though, is there some reason why these people can't be biased after the show closes down to BOTS? I prefer real ****ing opinionated people, not bureaucrats trying to hold it in. Emma, on countless occasions, has mentioned how much she's into Michael. It didn't help or hurt him.

Interviewers are better at what they do if they don't let the bias come through, and they denied being biased during the series even though they very obviously were.

I agree with you on that he's gotten better. All in all, I think he's a great guy. It's true that sometimes in Davina's interview she pushed a bit but it also suited her personality and that wouldn't suit Brian at all. Maybe I just feel that the questions are too predictable for me as a viewer and that destroys the interviews for me. I know what they're going to ask and I know how the questions will be answered as well. Maybe at times the questions could be more, should I say abstract, not so event related. He should try and probe more on deeper feelings. I know it's tough to do that as the situation is quite chaotic. The housemates are often a bit shell-shocked or just too happy to see their relatives and also some people are not able to give more than yes and no answers. I'm hoping I'll get over this and in the end I'll just notice that all this was just because I didn't like this series so much.

I don't mind them having their favorites as long as they usually show all housemates about the same amount in BOTS (which doesn't always happen). I think it would be weird if they could be so impartial that we wouldn't know their favorites. I didn't see any signs of Brian having Denise as his favorite when he was hosting the main show. So if he voices his opinion in BOTS, I don't have a problem with that.

I think the tip-toeing in the Michael interview was due to him being a Hollywood star. I believe Michael has expressed his boundaries on how the interviews should be like and then there's also the fact that they probably knew they wouldn't get that much out of him.

I don't see the interview differences between different people as being caused by bias on Brian's part and by who is his favorite but more as differences between cultures AND personalities. For example, I believe the English celebrities don't have similar type of boundaries when being interviewed as the Americans do. I thought the interviews with the Americans were much more cautious than with the UK celebrities and the Americans were a bit different in the interviews because they KNOW they're on TV at that particular moment and it's being broadcast.

All of them probably express boundaries on the interviews. It's true Americans can be a bit more reticent in these circumstances in BB, but I don't think Dowling helped much by going on irrelevantly about him never seeing him smile. Also Emma in trying to confirm he would still invite people over was suggesting indirectly that he was just bul****ting about that in the house.
