Default CBB/BB Contract already renewed??

Going off the two presenters Emma and Jamie last night on BBBOTS, they were instigating it's returning, as they were pressuring Johnathan Ross into going on, and also commenting alot on getting another loose women panelist in their etc.

Good point, Emma said she could officially ask him (though BOTS don't decide who goes in, so I don't know whether that was serious).

I was thinking that myself with the interview with Ross.

Maybe it's not 100% confirmed yet but they must be interested in it at least.

They probably meant if it's on.

I didn't even realise when they were discussing this that it might actually happen.

I think it depends on the BB ratings, I think now we have a 4 month gap until the next series, it gives people the chance to wind down for a bit and come back prepared for a new series, if it averages at like 2.3 million for the Summer series, I think it'll be seen as a success. But they recently said that Big Brother has done wonders for revenue on the channel. So it'd be beyond stupid to axe it after only a year.

CBB9 has been a great success for 5, both in terms of show quality and ratings. And, as you said, it definitely seems like they're planning on doing it again.

Whatever happens, we've definitely got BB13 in the summer to look forward to!

There are people trying to get Holly Willoughby from This Morning to go in too, so its pretty clear it will be back in 2013.

Yeah the contract technically runs out as soon as BB13 crowns it's winner, it's then up to them if they renew just CBB, just BB or both. Or just take it off air all together, which would be a silly thing to do.

Infact i'd say endemol have a large say in that.

Remember there's peoples employment for another 3/4months to think about. If BB is scraped alot of people are out of work, Endemol will NOT let five have CBB on its own.

It'll be all or nothing imo.

When you consider the boost the brand has given the channel, I can't see five dropping any of them anyway.

If BB13 can deliver an increase on the measly 1.7 million average that BB12 got, which I think is likely given the 4 month gap, then I reckon it will be seen as a success. C5 seems like they are finally getting to grips with the format, with CBB9 being a perfect example. They would be silly to axe their most prized asset after just a year.

It seems even if the summer series maintained the same sort of ratings they would be happy.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118049399

Another article I found, a few days old.

"But last year, despite a U.K. economy that is at best flatlining, Channel 5 saw advertising revenue reach the highest in its 14-year history, up 28% to more than Ł350 million ($546 million), thanks to "Big Brother" and a stash of Hollywood movies and TV shows, such as first runs of "CSI." RTL had been running the network at a loss. Last summer, Northern and Shell announced that a year after the takeover, Channel 5 was in profit.

Desmond also knows how to sell advertising. His ability to cross-sell and cross-promote Channel 5 across broadcast, print and online in multimedia deals that advertisers find compelling has resulted in a business that appears to be growing fast.

Murdoch also uses his three remaining U.K. newspapers to plug his pay TV platform BSkyB. But U.K. media commentator Raymond Snoddy wouldn't paint Desmond as a mini Murdoch.

"Desmond has very little feel for the media," says Snoddy."His talent is for making money and taking assets that other people undervalue and turning them into very valuable properties. Desmond has no interest in political power or social influence. He wants to run successful businesses."

Northern and Shell's editorial director, Paul Ashford, who has a doctorate in psychology and once interviewed pop stars for Desmond's music titles, has worked at the company for 32 years.

"We have the advantage that we have one energetic shareholder and a very small board," Ashford says, adding, "the newspapers, magazines and television, everything is coordinated. We are creating our own celebrities through 'Celebrity Big Brother.' There is a lot of room for synergies."

These ambitions have been most evident so far with "Big Brother" and "Celebrity Big Brother," which were losing their allure on Channel 4. By heavily promoting the shows in his newspapers, he has injected them back into the national zeitgeist, but skeptics wonder if Desmond will be able to sustain this over a period of time.

Not one to underpromote anything, Desmond joked that "Big Brother" would win 20 million viewers for the station. In fact, the show's average was around 1.7 million, less than the 3.2 million Channel 4 was getting when it wielded the axe. But since Channel 5 has the lowest audience share of the five main terrestrial networks, it started from a much lower base than C4, and that 1.7 million number was enough to keep advertisers happy.

"Celebrity Big Brother" has done better for Channel 5, generating more than 2.6 million viewers. For a station that endlessly promotes its celebrities across all Northern and Shell media, this is no surprise."

Some of the quotes i got, NOT the full article. Makes for an intresting read, with Murdoch's power waning and Desmond's growing etc, that could be playing some role in BB attracting more attention in the last month or so.
I did hear a while back the Murdochs hated BB and requested the editors give it very little publicity.

I disagree. As soon as Channel 5 axes Big Brother it'll pretty much be dead and buried - indeed, when Channel 4 got rid, C5 was the only broadcaster that wanted to pick it up.

So if C5 decides to table an offer to continue the Celebrity series only with favourable terms, and there's no interest from other networks (which you can almost guarantee there won't be), Endemol would be absolute mugs not to take it.

I think decisions have already been made, there are not even any rumours that this years BB series could be the last one, if it was likely to be, then again we would likely have the big build up as to the end of BB in it's usual form, that seems a non-existent possibility.

Like Scott,I believe CBB is completely safe but if they are carrying on with CBB yearly then it would make sense to capitalise on the project and still hold on to the normal BB series too.
I see both going for at least another 3 to 5 years from now.

This ^^

Not to mention the last BB had an official average of 1.8mil, thats damn close to the 2mil mark five had targetted for normal bb. As stated in the article the advertisers are happy with that, and if live/feed is re-instated and five get other things right etc, the show should be averaging above 2mil. Unless the summer series completely bombs, the future's BB

http://twitter.com/#!/Ed_StarOnSunday
But what an amazing series. Loads of laughs, LOADS of drama and a great final. And Brian was brilliant throughout. Bring on CBB 2013! #cbb

It's getting renewed, if five don't renew it, i'll be EXTREMELY SHOCKED.
